Ive put boots on alot of ground with a bow. Ive killed maybe 2 deer with a gun in 5 years in bama because i dont hunt private land very much i dont get to carry a rifle. Matter o fact i had to borrow a gun for those deer as well. Ive hunted and killed on skyline, tuskegee nat forest, hollins wma, jacson co refuge, corps of engineer, tva. Hunted and scouted: the above plus little river, wheeler, bankhead, talladega nat for, demopolis, barbour, kinterbish(year before it was done away with), mulberry fork, oakamulgee. One of these places ive seen more animals than all the others combined. But ill never tell. grin

I hunt a fair amount on Wheeler. I have private land also so it's about half and half. When I was in college at Jacksonville State I hunted some NF land. I enjoy public land and if you bow huntil you can hunt many of the WMA with little competition outside of the gun hunts.

Last year I exclusively turkey hunted Cahaba WMA. I deer hunt a good bit on cahaba but split time on private land. I can honestly say I really enjoy the challenge of public land hunting.

Hunt public land only in Alabama. Can’t / won’t pay the high prices for a club or private land for deer or turkey here. In other states I have several places to hunt that are private and public.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

If I hunt much this year it'll probably be public. Just not really motivated but I have a few ideas.

Cahaba WMA. It's 30 minutes away. I could probably hunt there the rest of my life and not cover it all.

I don't strikly hunt public land but I've done a good bit of public land hunting. Mostly Barbour but hunted Lowndes ,coosa ,hollins and kinterbish as well. Ive starting to transition to hunting more public land. I'm planing on a few bow season hunts on Tombigbee core land. The private land I hunt has a Christmas rut . January I'll be hunting Alabama river core land and then to Barbour for the 5 day gun hunt in February.

That's all I've hunted for the past 10 years. After having so much land to hunt I don't know if I could ever go back to being in a club that was only 1500 acres

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Last 3 years have been public land only. Little River,Choccolocco,Pelham and Talladega National Forest around Oxford. For the most part. It's been fun and have shot several deer. Plus you kinda expect to be cut off or walk over.
Got a grandson that will be 2 in November. So I figure couple 3 more years and I'll have to start looking for a club to join.

Public land only for me. Its like an endless supply of options for $45 bucks a year. Bankhead, wheeler, tva and skyline are all within 5 min to 40 minutes from me. About 300k acres i can piddle on. Probably more

I hunt public ground roughly 90% of the time. I have some private ground to hunt but it ain’t much and I do get invited to go on private land from time to time. I’ve killed deer in Talldega NF and Choccolocco WMA (its so close to my folks place I don’t normally hunt any other public ground in AL). Managed to kill on public land in NC and got my first in SC Saturday. I like the challenge of getting out and finding/outsmarting the deer.

Almost exclusively public land. I can bow hunt a little piece behind the house but it's tough to get in there without the neighborhood pain's in the behind seeing you and making a ruckus. I suspect I won't be able to hunt it for very long.

I hunted skyline last year with no luck at all! The year before I missed a couple of deer. (no good luck then either, but I did get close to some)

Yeah, I was discouraged by Skyline last year also. I didn't even see any last year. And they reduced the number of hunting days this year on the WMA. Makes me really concerned the numbers are falling and wonder if they will recover.

Started hunting skyline some the last 4 years but not exclusively. Found a great spot a few weeks ago and will get to go back on Wednesday hopefully get my first public land deer. Most sign I have ever seen on skyline and hardly any sign of other hunters.
