Riding up the river Saturday, our brand new Minn Kota Terrova came loose, dropped in the water, snapped off the front deck, and sank to the bottom in 30' of water.

We've tried locating it and should be fairly close and tried snagging it, but haven't found it yet. The thing cost over $1600.

Insurance says theres nothing they can do about it, because I didn't have enough money listed for "Accessories". Pretty heated about that.

Me too. Now the insurance part of it is leaving a pretty bitter taste in my mouth. Why do you have insurance if they can't help you out when you need it??

Forget the Hummingbird find a diver. Have you tried a fishing anchor like the ones they sell on Amazon. Dragging one around could find it.

I would use a diver if I knew one. We made up a big grapple hook and drug it for a few hours, but never hooked anything moveable. Some kind of log down there close by, I believe.

I have Alfa and even though I have a total of $11k coverage, apparently it wasnt divided up in the right manner, so they won't help me any. Frustrating considering I have several policies with them.

I think most of the motor is plastic, aluminum, and composite. Plus the thing weighs 50 lbs or more it seemed like.

Here is a magnet rated to pull up 225 pounds. The motor has steel in it. Just make sure your rope is strong enough and you wear gloves.

I just picked one insurance over another on my new boat because Progressive covered accessories, tackle, etc up to $10k

Cost a few more $ a month, but if I ever need it it will be worth it

Hey, I am an Alfa agent, and you might want to press your adjuster/agent about that. I understand a trolling motor "can" be removed from the boat, but it's not an item that is typically ever removed. It is "permanently attached", and permanently attached items are considered part of the watercraft, not accessories. You know, if you went to a motel overnight you might remove your graphs, but you're not going to remove your trolling motor. I'm pretty confident our adjusters would pay that trolling motor from the "watercraft" coverage. Again, I'm an agent, not an adjuster, but I think you should revisit them about it.

Your declarations page will show $X for watercraft, $X for motor, and $X for trailer. You get 10% of the watercraft coverage for accessories, can pay additional premium to get more if desired. But I'm pretty confident that trolling motor should be paid from watercraft.
