My Daddy had a 56 model Ford 600 tractor and it is now in my possession. It has not been cranked in a couple of years and I have taken on the job of trying to get it going again. Once I get it going again, I plan on selling it as I don't need it

Problem is, I removed the glass bowl on the carburetor that holds the fuel and I cannot get it to stop leaking. I tried cutting a gasket to see if that would seal it, but had no luck. I next took some gasket sealer and placed it on the bowl to see if it would stop the leaking. I am not going to try messing with it until the gasket material hardens for 24 hours and then I will try it. I know several of you on here have solved this same problem before. If you have let me know what you did.

Thanks in advance
B

I owned a Super C that had a glass bowl like that on it. The thing I learned to do was to never mess with it. What you have done will probably work, but it was always a hassle for me to get that thing to stop leaking.

You might get an o-ring kit and custom make one to go between the glass bowl and the mating surface on the carburetor.

Rubber gasket cut from an old inner tube might work.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

The only reason I took it off was to get the sediment and old gooey gas out of the bowl. I didn't want that going into the carb. The gasket maker sealer I bought did the trick. I just had to go and see if I could get it to seal and it did.

I planned to try all the methids listed but the sealer did the trick. Still haven't got it cranked but I am working on it.

It shouldn't be hard to find the correct gasket.

I have an old 56 model Ford 600 myself. I loved that old thing. I say loved because it is now permanently retired. A couple of years ago, I was bush hogging in some thick brush and it caught on fire. Burned enough of it I decided to replace it instead of repairing it. It's replacement is a 57 model Ford 800. (an almost identical tractor) Along the way, I discovered a cool website that is a great source for parts and information. They have a bowl assembly just for a Ford 600 if needed, or just about anything else for a 600, 800, 8n, 2n, 9n, Jubilee, NAA, 2000, 4000, etc. I know you have the issue about the bowl seal fixed now, but I'm willing to bet there will be other issues to deal with down the road.

Cork gaskets work best for this imho. Tractor supply used to keep the one you need on the shelf. I haven't bought one in a couple of years, so they might not anymore but they used to. They even sold the whole assembly, or just the glass bowl too.

Edited to add: if you go the TSC route, don't bother calling to see if they have it, or asking anybody that works there, they will not have a clue. Just go look through their tractor part section.

I'm on Yesterday's tractor... if you run into anything serious let me know and I'll post the question for you if you don't want to join since you aren't looking to keep this thing

Use an o-ring. I did it on 2 Allis b models and worked perfect. Also if you need to clean carb, use the wire out of a bread tie.

I had the exact same problem on an old Ford and tried Cork and it wouldn't seal. I ended up breaking the bowl trying to get it to tighten and I finally went to TSC and they had a plastic replacement that worked! I felt stupid because we dang near burned the Tractor up bush hogging with the leak.

Thanks for all of the input men. I appreciate it.

BTW-I am going to sell this tractor, running or not. I just have so much going on I can't devote much time to it. It was running, and running well when we parked it in the tractor shed and left it. I bought a new John Deere to use out there so I had no use for the Ford. This is the reason it wasn't used. I am assuming it needs a good carb cleaning looking at what had settled in the fuel bowl.

I am going to put this up for sale and if anyone wants a good food plot tractor, this would make a good one. For those of you real mechanical, a little time on this one and you would have a good tractor. Just let me know if any of you are interested and I will send you some pictures. This belonged to my Daddy and has been on the same farm since 1956.

Man, how could you sell a tractor that's been part of the family since 1956? We've only had the Super C since 1965 and I would never sell it. Hope to live to see my grandson running it one day.

The Super C didn't have a gasket. Of course, it was 13 yrs old when we got it, so maybe the first owner had just put it together without one.

Is the glass bowl part threaded to screw into the carb body?
