Our family dog died a little over a year ago from old age and it's time for a new puppie. I've been promising my 5yr old for a couple of weeks now that we would get a puppie but haven't had any luck finding one. Any help would be appreciated. Ty

What breed?

If all you want is a family dog, go to the shelter. They have all sorts of breeds, and a lot of them are pure bred and/or trained. Unless you have a specific job for a dog, you should get a shelter dog in a breed that is submissive. personally my next dog will either be a lab or a schnauzer. Good luck.

X2 Shelter, or google type of dog you would like and then "rescue Alabama" and you will find many choices.

I was wanting a lab or similar but I'm not set in stone about breed. Just has to be a puppie.

Have checked several shelters including humane society, Shelby county rescue and bama bully rescue. They don't have many puppies and i do not want to bring in a young or adult dog around my child that hasn't grown up with her . Also, Prefer a pure bred dog, having papers isn't a must but was thinking a lab or dog breed similar to lab.

It's not a lab but boxer gets my vote.

I haven't had any breeds other than labs all my life. So I cannot comment on any others. But labs a pretty common. Ours is only 1yr and is a bit on the large side (110lbs). He is starting to calm down some only cause I work with him as much as possible. Good luck with your search

a lab breeder will be very easy to find, they are a very common breed of dog in the state. google gun dog breeders and you should have no problem finding a breeder that fits your needs and wants.
