Seen a 300 blk cva pistol in the classifieds got me to thinking whats the sweet spot as far caliber goes with something like that.seems like a 243, 300 blk or 308 would be best 30 06 270 seems like it might be hard to handle. My pops has got a TC in 7mm 08 i need to go shoot that thang

.30-30,.300 herrett,7mm tcu. You lose most rifle advantages so you need efficency and portability. Then the question becomes if toting a single shot or trim lever wouldn't be a better pick in weapon.

I forgot about the dirty 30 it would prolly be a good one.Your right about losing the advantages of a longer barrel.More of a cool factor than anything I guess

.35 Remington. I had one and it was very accurate. It did have a brake on it so hearing protection was a must
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I've got a TC Encore in 308. It's a pleasure to shoot with not much felt recoil. I haven't killed much with it. Just a couple whitetails and one mule deer doe and one antelope buck.
It's too cumbersome to deal with around here for me to carry it while treestand hunting.
83% of all statistics are made up.

The 7-30 Waters remains one of the best kept secret goodness among rifle loonys.Low recoil pretty decent ballistics lighter weight pretty lever guns to shoot it in.(The 7-30 is based off the 30-30 and must be reloaded like that's a negative....Not)

7BR , I have an XP-100 chambered in that cartridge , myself I wouldn't want much more recoil . It sits in a Mcmillan stock molded in Rhino camo and kills pigs very well w/139gr. Hornady Interlock .
Play some Skynyrd man !

Those little XP-100s were cool little guns back in the day in .221 Fireball. There's still a large following for them and wildcat variants of them in more potent cartridges.

I have hunted with a 7-30 waters for years, and if I was going to start fresh it would be a 260, 6.5 creed, or a 7/08.
Recoil isn't that much more, but you pick up a lot in velocity, range, and ammo availability. I have killed them at 200 with the waters, and that is as far as I would push it, but making hits well beyond that isn't an issue.

7x30 is great in a 14" Contender. 30 Herret if you wanna use a 10" barrel.
