I'm looking for a new 3.5inch chamber 12 gauge turkey gun and want yalls opinion on them. I have always used a 28" barrel with an x-full choke but most the turkey guns I see now seem to have 20-24" barrels. How much does barrel length matter in effective shot distance and what guns do y'all think are the best reasonably priced ones? Looking for a pump or semi auto 12 gauge 3.5" chamber. Also camo dipped would be a plus

My Mossberg Turkey Thug's 535 has a 20" barrel and puts out great patterns at 40 yards, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot one at 45-50 yards with it, it is a very light gun, it weighs just over 6 pounds.

I shot a mosberg 835 for along time. Probly the most reliable and inexpensive rout. An they used to come with i believe a 28 and a 24in barrel

Opinion would be way to heavy to tote around when you can get the same range with half the weight.

I chose several years ago to have a dedicated turkey gun, I wanted a short barrel to be more maneuverable and to save some weight. I also chose a pump to save weight, and because it really didn't feel right to drag an auto on the damp ground, mud, etc.. as happens so often while turkey hunting.

I am going to sell my browning gold hunter 3.5 invector plus 12 guage, semi auto, 24 inch barrel after turkey season. I have killed a bunch of turkeys with it, especially at long ranges and it is in fantastic shape. I need wrist fusion surgery and am going to get a pistol grip shot gun to relieve some pressure. If interested, you can pm me.

I have a mossberg 935 that shoots everything from 2 3/4 in high brass to 3.5 inch magnums. With a carlson choke and 3 in longbeards im putting up a great pattern out to 50 yrds.

Here's my 2 primary turkey guns for the past 15 years. Loaded with Winchester Supremes, the sbe would kill a turkey at 50 yards, but the pattern quickly fell apart after that. It is actually light for a 12 gauge 3.5" gun, but still over 2 pounds heavier than the bottom gun and significantly longer. It kicks like a mule with lead; not quite as bad as with my tss loads. It's a solid 75 yd gun with tss.

Bottom gun is a Yildiz sxs 20 gauge with barrels shortened to 24". It weighs 5 lb 6 oz. With tss it is probably a 60 yd gun, though 50 is still my limit with it. You can tell how short it is.

So if you were an old man with a bad back, which would you carry? smile

I'm thinking of a trip to KS this year. Might carry the sbe if I go. Other than that, it stays in the safe.

My 12ga turkey gun is a browning cynergy 3.5" dipped in bottomland camo. I have Jebs .670 chokes in it and I'm running 3.5" TSS loads out of it.

Sweet looking rig. I talked to you guys last week about doing a few things to my Cynergy after the season. If you don't mind me asking, where did you go for the Bottomland?

I wanted an all around gun so i bought a Beretta a350 extrema for about $950. It has a 28" barrel which makes it good for doves and ducks and about anything else. I put a .655 Jebs choke in it and killed a turkey at 69 steps in a food plot yesterday, with some 3.5" winchester #5 xr. I love this gun.
