Tried a different spot this morning with the same results as yesterday and Monday morning. Nothing heard and no birds seen. I didn't pass a single truck on my way in this morning and I remained silent ( no hooting or any turkey call until after 7, just letting the critters wake up the world. I did a few suttle low calls on a slate call. Nothing responded. I was on a ridge that went down to an opening that looked promising. So I moved down to that opening put out my decoys moved back up the hill about 30-35 yards and set up against a tree. Hit the crow call to maybe get one to shock but nothing heard. Now I know I've never killed a turkey. I've been told my calling could only improve. When I first started out I called a lot. Ive worked on all those things. I've not hunted public land in years, and after reading up on some internet sights decided to give it a go. Around 930- 10:00 this morning I pack it up and decide to maybe find some tracks in the road. I didn't get but maybe 200 yards down the road when I see this guy walking toward a truck. I asked if he had any luck hearing or seeing anything this morning. His reply was "Only some idiot that sounded like a back ally cat fight a little while ago." If it was someone on here all I can say is get some ear plugs, because I'll be back at it first light tomorrow morning.
NOW is the time for all GOOD men to come to the aid of their country.

Should have told him to find somewhere else to hunt next time if he didn't like it
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Haha public land can be brutal. Once was hunting a bird that was about 200 yards away and i could see him coming to be. Low and behold another hunter slipped in there to shoot him in front of me then didn't stick around very long after i started clapping at him.

Or maybe you should practice more. solid advice, no ill intent, but you can only get better if you practice. Then you'll be killing em in no time

"rude" is the definition of public land turkey hunters.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

"rude" is the definition of public land turkey hunters. I'm generally not rude and I hunt public land. Although, you could make an argument as to whether or not I'm actually a turkey hunter.

I was hunting some public land once and a guy came to where I was calling and told me I was on private land and he had called the gw and he was on his way and if I didn't want a ticket I better get out of there. I told him I would wait for the gw to get there.
He then told me he was thinking about kicking my azz.
I told him that would be a Azz kicking I would have to take. All this with me wholding a 12 gauge shotgun and .357 in the holster.
Needless to say I stayed and the gw never came and I explained to him that I was now not leaving unti dark.
It was 9 am. He left cursing after about 30 minutes.
Don't be that person. It gives turkey hunting and turkey hunters a bad name.

Yeah what I did to get better was listen hen calls on youtube and try to mimic them. Had not been call but for 3 weeks and called in 2 jakes and 6 hens today with a tom trailing about 65 yards... still waiting to kill my first turkey but there was some adrenaline running today. Also try a friction call i picked up on that super easy and they are farley cheap.

"rude" is the definition of public land turkey hunters. Thats what I was thinking. If that hurt your feelings, you should just pack your stuff up and stay at home. Your going to run into worse.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.
