Do any of you hunt with a trumpet call? I have one that i never really used much hunting but have practiced with it quite a bit. I broke it out today after a gobbler quit responding to my other calls and he fired off at me and the hen (that had not made a sound all morning) started yelping and cutting at me. They never came in but It was neat to me that they responded to the trumpet after ignoring the other calls. Trumpets defiantly have a different sound to them than any other type of call.

I killed this bird with a Billy Buice trumpet several years back. I had been fooling with him for about a week and he would come close but never close enough. I had just about given up on him when I tried the trumpet as a last resort because I wasn't very consistent with it. He came in on a string to his death. A guy who can run a trumpet can flat out kill turkeys. It has a sound that can't be mimicked by other calls. They just take LOTS of practice.

I use a couple of natural wingbones.

I did most of the calling to the one I killed yesterday with a trumpet. I did answer him when he gobbled the second time with a mouth call, mainly because I keep it ready and can yelp back instantly.

I ordered a Brian Mero call yesterday. The call I have I got at the Georgia Turku expo about 9 years ago. Don't remember the guy who made it. Everyone says the Buice calls are awesome

I was wondering is anyone might know the maker of this call? Got it at a turkey expo calling contest near Atlanta about 9 years ago.

I want to learn the trumpet, everyone says it's difficult as all get out. Y'all got any tips?

I never go into the woods without my Buice trumpet. Killed many birds with it.

It's like learning to play a musical instrument. It takes a ton of consistent practice. Took me about 2.5yrs before I was confident enough and sounded good enough to use it hunting. But I'm pretty proficient at it now. Kept it in the truck mostly and yelped and clucked along to whatever song was playing on the radio. That teaches you to control the air pressure and how to hold, start, and stop the air.

To learn, I would suggest getting a higher quality custom made (more expensive) trumpet over a cheap one. The better quality trumpets are much easier to control the air pressure and will cut down on the learning curve. I've tried some cheap-o's, and I can't even run those cheap ones to make them sound right.

I've got some pretty ones, wood, wing bones, river cane, but I can't get consistent enough with any of them to feel comfortable calling with them. It was about all my Dad would use, an old wing bone trumpet.
