Thanks for all the advice, guys. I won't be able to go back until the second weekend in April. My hunting land is in Notasulga, so it has to be weekend trips for me. With a pregnant wife at home (our first), I have a few weekends I can get away with this year. Maybe the hens will be nesting then and the gobblers will be lonely when I go back. Based on your questions, I didn't think you lived on this land; good luck, late season may be the best time for you to get one.

I'm so glad you posted this. I felt like I was going crazy when it happened to me 2 years ago. Gone. For no obvious reason, just gone. The lack of gobbling didn't concern me near as much as the absence of tracks and droppings.
You've hunted my club so you'll understand this. The hunting was way better 5 years ago when the pines were so thick you couldn't hunt them. We've since had over half our property thinned, and some of that has been burned. In short, the habitat's way better now, but the hunting is way worse. I can't explain it. There are fewer birds there now, plain and simple. I see a fraction of the amount of tracks I used to see. This season is shaping up to be just like the bad one 2 years ago. My Saturday and Sunday hunts consisted of hearing a grand total of 1 gobble.

I'll be glad to go do some scouting for you and give you a report! I'm willing to go as often as necessary. I bet you would. I wish I lived closer, but it could be worse!

My Saturday and Sunday hunts consisted of hearing a grand total of 1 gobble. Interesting. We burned 2 years ago, and the habitat still looks relatively open, and definitely still better than pre-burn. I wish I had time (and $$$) to do some turkey studies on the land where we hunt. Would be nice to have some of these concerns answered.

For what it's worth, we only heard one bird gobble all weekend but this morning there were 10+ heard. I wasn't there unfortunately, but it just goes to show that some days they are more vocal than others. I hope that things turn around at your place just like I'm hoping things are picking up at mine.

If it was just gobbling, I wouldn't be concerned. I've hunted places, including this one, that had little or no gobbling but the amount of tracks left in the roads and the droppings covering most food plots let you know that turkeys were there. There's a significant reduction in all turkey sign, not just gobbling.
FYI, there 3 members at our club hunting today too. One guy heard a gobble. The others didn't.

I have heard a total of one gobbler on the property we hunt which is about 800 acres. I haven't heard one gobble since I killed him on Thursday morning (I assume it was him)
This is a property that you will typically hear multiple gobblers most mornings. Nothing significant habitat wise has occurred on or around the property.
It has always been a great place to turkey hunt. They aren't gobbling much on the two adjacent properties either.
I'm primarily the only hunter and no more than 4 were killed on it last year. Definitely a couple leftover from last year. They aren't getting slaughtered.
Usually they are all there this by this time.
