Let's do this. Seems like a completely different season after that cold front the last few days. It's 20° warmer.

Bacon, sausage, biscuits and coffee is ready. Time to fix a plate and a cup and sit on the porch to listen for one that wants to die.

I picked up a trail camera I had out in a cutover at the house during deer season. And dang it if there wasn't a gobbler and 2 hens in there opening morning at 9am. Until this picture I have never seen or heard a bird on this property during the season. I'm going sit and listen on my front porch for a little this morn before I have to head to work.

I'm here in Perry County in the national forest at my spot. I've already taken my coat off. Let's see if one wants to come to a dance party, a flop dance that is.

here... atv ride wasnt nearly as brutal this morning. Climbed the mountain waiting on daylight, also means turkey will all be in the bottoms or the ones up here will pitch down the mountain to the bottoms.

I'm here for the first hunt of the season. Hopefully they will speak up. Quiet so far

Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas: sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-bitches.

Set up 1 was a bust. Had a bird hammering across the property line and headed my direction. Then I heard that unexpected sound....BOOM, neighbor shot him, well now for round 2

If there's gonna be a slaughter here it needs to hurry up. One gobble so far.

Super slow in east Montgomery county.

1 gobbled 3 times in tree, then shut up

Walked to other side and had one gobble randomly close. Set up on road but didn't ever hear or see him

Back at it tomorrow

They didn't start gobbling till a little later but when they started it was nonstop. Got the dreaded phone call from work about 7:30 about an alarm at my conecuh county site so we had to cut the hunt short.

Quick hunt before work. Heard 1 gobble twice then nothing. Stayed put until 830 and had to leave. We will see what happens tomorrow.
