I've never seen a coyote do that. They always tear the ass end up This, outside of starting at the wound area, I've never seen a coyote, especially on prey with no gun shot wound (roadkill), start eating anywhere but the ass.
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

Coyote. They'll pull the guts out of them. This... Son shot a buck a few years back on a morning hunt, waited for me to get there to help him. Said he heard yotes yelpping but didn't think much of it until we found his deer. His belly was missing from his back legs to his ribs. Yotes cleaned out the cavity. It only took them about an hour to do this....

I guess it's possible it was hit by a car, but it was lying maybe 20 feet off the road at the edge of the woods so not directly on the roadside like normal roadkill. If it was hit by a car it got catapulted a long way. Or, whatever ate it dragged it up the slope for a good distance into the trees. Here is a Google maps view of the place where it was found- hard to gauge the distance from this picture, I know, but it wasn't just right on the road side at all- it was up at the edge of the treeline. As for getting cut on the fence, yes I guess that's another possibility, but the deer/wildlife have pushed through and dug out several spots along the chain link where they follow their trails. This deer was found just on the outside of one of those holes and I have my trail cam pointed at a different part of this same fence that meanders around then backs up to my property. The deer go under it almost nightly without any issue from what I've seen on my camera. That's why I picked the spot I did for my trail cam since it's a wildlife point of entry to my yard. I don't think we will be able to figure this mystery out, honestly. I guess I will just choose to believe it was coyotes even though I'm still not sure they would be so clean about their breakfast. I appreciate y'all taking the time to help me out, though! If I catch any photos of big game on my backyard trail cam y'all will be like, the 99th or 100th to know. Very few road kill deer actually die by the road. Most run off a short distance and die.

I don't know what killed it, but the hole eaten, where it's eaten, and how it's eaten, looks like it was eaten by a coyote to me. I've seen one in person that I KNOW was eaten by coyotes and it looked identical.

I've seen one in person that I KNOW was eaten by coyotes and it looked identical. This makes the most sense to me. It seems that it would take the least amount of effort to eat these first.

A non hunter, or person who has limited experience gutting a deer. Might have hit the deer, tried to find (or got) the tenderloins and the yotes did the rest.

I came up on a deer that had been shot off the road on our place. Fairly recent, like a few hours old. My buddy and I were standing there looking at it (and cussing whoever shot it) and my buddy kinda kicked the deer in the side and a possum came running out of its gut cavity.
It was a nasty deal.

I can help you out here. I know exactly what didn't eat that deer, a black panther. Your neighbor is seeing things. That deer was killed by a car.
Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

We don't have hogs up around this area. Probably hit by a car then varmits took over. There are a bunch of hogs in certain parts of shelby county. From Leeds, all the way around lake purdy, liberty park, cahaba heights, dunavant.
Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

don't know if this did it but, my buddy shot his first buck with a bow a few years back on some public land an he hit it real bad an it ran bout 800 yards but bled ok enough for me to follow it and I finally found it about 1:00am(we had to leave the next morning) as I walked up to it it moved. my first thought was that it wasn't dead but as I got closer I realized it had a big hole in it side and there was blood all over the place. all I had was a pocket knife and my streamlight. I got a little closer and out popped a coons head... he looked around saw me jumped out and ran up the nearest tree he had climbed inside the deer an eat that sucker from the inside out. it looked like theyre might have been more there but he was the only one left. I was happy he had gutted the deer for me an I mean it was clean on the inside an they was a hole the size of a 5 gal bucket in the deer.
