Got a cutover on a new lease this year. I've seen deer during the first hour of daylight but haven't hunted it in the afternoon. Have any of you had luck hunting them in the afternoon?

Absolutely. Never know when you will see deer in the cutover. My son killed a really nice deer last year in the late afternoon in some cutover.

We have deer that will bed right in the cutover, then get up and move around in the middle of the day.

my experience has been better in mornings until the rut hits. This time of year should be just as good as mornings.

Our Bullock lease is 380 acres. Prob 340 of it is cutover with the 40 acres in SMZ. Deer all over it. It's still short enough that we can see a long way. Saw a decent rack running the heck out of a doe last wee at 8am from 250+ yards away. Watched both does and bucks bed down and get up at all times of day.

Fred, Fred, Fred you forgot STAY LONG during the rut. they bed in clear cuts. You never know when a buck is going to cruise looking for bedded does. Climb high so you can see as much of it as possible. I shot at one chasing a doe in a CC several years ago about 200 yds out. They were hauling butt the whole time and
I didn't come close. They disappeared over a hill and a few mins after it quieted down, a buck I had pics of stood up about 50 yds from me and looked around. BIG MISTAKE. This happened around 1 pm one afternoon. Carry something to eat and drink, sit all day. Hunt Safe

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!

we have a new 160 acre cutover this year, and i see more deer on this thing all times of the day. I can see 300 yards in front, and then 100 yards to the right and about 450 to the left. We have a tripod on one end, ground blind on the other and a ladderstand right in the middle for when the wind is perfect. Loggers were kind enough to leave that one tree and not tear down our stand.

When the timber dudes cut about 200 acres on our lease about three years ago,,, my brother said that's it we're done ,,, I said bull shnitz ,,,

I had a tripod set up dang near in the middle of this clear cut that season and watched more deer that season than almost all other seasons combined,,, morning,, noon and evening ,,,

my favorite would be high in a tree looking at a south facing slope in a 4-6 foot tall clearcut on a 25 degree day with no wind. The deer are going to bed there and get up as soon as the sun hits the ground.
