Or do any of y'all think when y'all see a nice deer killed "man, he would have made to next year if the state hadn't added those days in February." Don't get me wrong. I'm hunting in the morning and this weekend and I'm shooting something, but February hunting is still weird to me.

I agree this morning was my first time ever huntjng in febuary. I know there are two sides to the argument whether we should have them or not. I'm all for it since my area I hunt is just now getting started up. Thankfully for the oppurtunity to get a few more days doing what I love.

Well I liked the idea of hunting in February because it is during the rut and is SUPPOSED TO BE FREAKING COLD!!!!

I literally needed some sunscreen these past two days

I can't speak for everybody but the extra days certainly saved a bucks life yesterday. He was tall and at least 3 1/2 but never turned to give a look at his inside spread. In the last 10 minutes of Jan 31th, he normally would have died. Gave him a pass. May get another look at him but...

I hope somebody on here is going to say that about a deer I see this weekend.

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

I can think of two times I experienced rutting activity in mid to late January,,, about seven years ago I listened to chasing going on in the woods in front of me but it was so thick I couldn't see the deer ,,, I should have set up in the woods instead of the logging road. I listened to this the whole afternoon.

Three years ago I was set up in a tripod between two food plots,, I watched a nice buck (not a shooter though ) feed like a pig in an upper plot while does were feeding a plot below me,, he'd look at the does but never went over to investigate. I took that as a sign the rut was not on yet.

I always heard the north Alabama dudes saying they get to hunt the rut up north and then hunt it again down south.. I couldn't have been happier that the state spent the money and time to research and find out just when do our central and south Alabama deer actually rut,,, getting 10 days in Feb to increase our chances of seeing one of those Alabama bruisers is well received,

It does feel odd to hunt deer in Feb,, I'm always kicking my bass fishing season then,, It doesn't have to be arctic weather for me,, if it's cool in the mornings and then cools down late afternoon I'm good with that,, we always get some cold enough weather in Feb anyhow,,

I've got one on camera I'm praying makes it the next 9 days. He went missing for a week but showed back up last night and this afternoon. He would have made it through another season if it closed yesterday. This deer is going to be a stud if he lives two more years.

let a legitimate mid 130's, 3 1/2 year old 8 walk (was bow hunting too) last weekend at a friend's place in Bullock. That same afternoon I saw him again over a mile away chasing a doe, getting closer to the property line. He is one of those rare bucks that has the potential to be 150+, so I really hope he makes it.

I've got until the 10th in Alabama and the 15th here around the house in Mississippi. Deer hunting on Valentine's day is weird but those last ten days in Alabama at my camp and 15days here around the house has made a big difference. Seems like we have killed some big mature deer on those days that we would've never seen being it used to go out on the 31st.

I know one area I seen one of the biggest bucks I have seen during daylight hours when I was out walking around in February with no gun. Can be an opportunity if you can run up with one. Glad to see it and would not mind it if open until February 31st myself. Maybe some deer will slip off someones sanctuary and give me a shot this next week if I can go.

Dr. B, I think it. Heck, I used to think it about those deer killed the very last minute of Jan 31st though! laugh

I've got an 8pt on my office wall that I killed at cricket-dark on Jan 31st. I always tell the story of that hunt, and end with "He was literally just a few minutes away from living. I almost feel bad for him!"

I don't like it, but then again I hate "change" anyway......
I have a ton of deer on camera that'll make it, bucks and does.
