My bro wants to take a tarsal gland from a smaller buck, attach it to a boot and walk around the hunting property. Thinks it might draw out the big boy. What y'all think.

We did it back in VA all the time. Granted we hunted big mountain timber. It worked some.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

When I was a kid some of the older guys in camp would do that but not sure if it works. Seems like scents and calls have come a long way in the last twenty years.

Put out some doe estrus near the tarsal gland. If a horny old buck smells it, he's coming. My boy killed a nice one like that last year.

I cut them off and hang them where I'm hunting. Ol big boy smells one in his territory he will come investigate. I've killed several from doing that

Killed my only shooter buck down here in Florida using a tarsal off a buck that was shot a couple days previous... an older seasoned hunter cut it off the buck he shot and said tie this to your hunting pack. I thought he was joking at first... the buck I shot circled me twice before shooting light and stuck around until I could make out he was a shooter.. back then I was not very well schooled on my own scent control so that buck had to have put the anger of another buck in his area above the fear of my smell even!

hunted in a club with an idot years ago that tied several to each boot. Stank like hell, didn't do him any good either.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

Only time I had success with them was hanging a fresh one in front of my stand.
Arrowed a couple of bucks that no doubt came in smelling them. And they were from different properties.
Never drug any on the ground or around my stand.

I never drug one in but I've hung them near my stand three times. First time a spike and a four point stuck there noise to it, second time nothing, third time almost pulled the trigger on a decent six point, first hunt of the weekend, didn't see another deer

I usually take them off most bucks and use them a couple days... They get funky pretty quick after that.

Yeah usually cut em in two, then stick 3 pieces in the freezer. That way you'll have frech scent 4 times. If your hunting an area that a buck has been working hard it will definitely increase your odds. But if he's holed up with a doe somewhere it won't make a difference imo
