My wife's family owns about 500 acres on hwy 86 and I am headed that way at the end of the week so I was just curious. I talked to her cousin up there that's hunts a pretty good bit on some other land and he says they haven't even started yet.

We killed one nice 8 point a few weeks ago. He came out the same trail as a doe but can't swear to it that he was after her. This particular buck moved a lot in day time. We have not seen one buck chasing. Not even a spike.

That's crazy last year I went up on new years and saw bucks chasing every day I was there.

Saw several bucks chasing starting Dec. 28 and still chasing as of last weekend. Mature bucks just starting to cruise at my place.

We're having weird rut this year between Carrollton and Pickensville. I guess you'd call it a trickle rut. Been going on since right after Christmas. Normally we'd have very defined seeking, chasing and lockdown phases. Not this year.

This for sure, I would think in the next couple of weeks more mature deer will definitely be seen. I am still seeing super young bucks cruising and just now weeing evidence of mature bucks roaming around. The one killed at our place had never been seen before and was standing in the middle of a food plot that is in the middle of of a 160 acre cutover.

The rut sucked this year. Big bucks will trickle into green fields if they can find one.

Where on 86? Between Carrollton and Pickensville or between Carrollton and Gordo. My place is closer to Pickensville and what rutting happened this year is basically gone

Our place is about 4 or 5 miles from Pickensville if you are headed toward Carrollton.

I hunted Pickens, near Reform, for twenty or so years. Moved, so i haven't been in a couple of years. Over that time the peak has changed every dadgummed year. I've killed them chasing as early as 12/19 and as late as 01/31. The best is usually the first and second weeks of January, but sometimes the best hasbeen the last half of the month. Never got to hunt February. Worth trying. Go and expect the best. Hard to beat a good day in the woods.

Wouldn't be the old Mayo place would it?
