DURATRAC. I have had them on two tacomas but never wore them totally out (wrecked last truck, and another set currently). Friends are getting over 50k per set on them, and they're a good combination of all terrain and mud terrain for me. Minimal road noise. I have the same size as factory, and I went with 6 ply rather than 10 ply E rated to trim weight. My MPG has stayed within 1mpg of where it was with factory tires (4cyl Tacoma 4x4 manual, 20.5mpg) . I suspect the E rated tire would've hurt the mpg significantly more.

Not saying the bfg at is bad, just saying the duratrac is very good.

Second set of Duratracs on old Z71 hunting truck. Had BFGs on other trucks.

I'll take the tracs.

Another vote for the BFG's AT/K02's. The price difference between the Nitto's & BFG's wasn't that much & the best set of truck tires I've owned were a set of original K0's.

Id take a hard look at the toyo extreme AT2 tires. Its what I am running on my duramax now and have been thoroughly pleased with them.

When I bought my 06 F250 it had the BFG's AT's already on it. I purchased the truck in the spring 08 and loved them for the road trips to the beach and other places that summer. Deer season came that fall and every time I pulled off the paved road I got stuck. I don't know if it was due to the AT's not cleaning themselves out or because the truck was so dog gone heavy. Thank God it also came with a 12,000 pound warn winch because it got used often. Before Christmas of that season I bought a set of BFG mud terrains and put them on the truck and that eliminated some of the stuckness. The rest was driver error and his laziness to walk or unload the 4 wheeler. So in my opinion with that truck and all the 4x4's I' have owned you need to decide what you want to compromise. The road noise that comes with the mud grip or the quiet ride that comes with the AT and the performance of both off road for where you go.

Leroy I agree with the inability of the tire to clean well. I got stuck with the BFG as well. It seemed like every time they would get some mud on them they would lose all grip and just cake up. Mud terrians are where its at however the life of the tires suffer. Ill say this the toyo A/T that are on my truck now I have been as satisfied with the grip and aggressive look as the old BFG m/T

Same for me. The KO2's have same or less noise than the TG's. Mileage was a wash for my 5.4L. Traction in slick mud seems marginally better with the KO2. I've got 30Kish on mine and they look like they've got at least that much left in them.

I put 40k miles on a set of duratracs that had 2 previous owners. I thought they were great tires.

Just put a set of k02s on my truck. Almost no road noise, good looking, good traction at my farm on mud and gravel. Towed around 14k with my gooseneck and they did great as well. I'm happy as long as they hold up.

In my opinion the TA/KO2's are hands down best in the category

At one point, years ago I would recommend the BFG's. I ran them on my personal as well as company trucks. I manage a multi-billion dollar fleet of vehicles where we have all but completely stopped using them. I just spent a couple of days with the Michelin engineerings ( who owns BFG ) investigating the hundreds of failures we have had. One issue is very poor wear, like tires worn out within 25,000 miles of highway use. Biggest issues were actual cord/belt separations. I got tired of repairing beds and fenders. They, Michelin admitted they had issues with the KO and the KM. So for what it's worth I might would run'em on a old Tacoma but nothing heavier than that.

I have ran both and I prefer Duratracs. Price is basically the same, but the traction in the mud is much better for the Duratracs to me. On my second set now running them on a Z71. Got 52,000 out of the first set and traded the truck in with 20% tread left.

That's very interesting, and specific , information. Sounds like they have a quality control issue.
