Kimber is making a "hunter" model. Guaranteed MOA accuracy with factory ammo. They go for around 800.
There's a good article about them in this months NRA Rifleman magazine.

Buy you a cheap used savage 110 from a local shop, have it rebatreled with a Shilen barrel to caliber of choice and out shoot anything off the shelf in the box stores. And you will still come In Under a grand.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Bass Pro in Leeds has Tikka T3 on sale for 499 blued and 599 Stainless composite and 699 for blued wood stock.
I have 2 and they are the most accurate "out of the box' rifles I own. Fantastic triggers.

i'd get a Remmy 783 and spend the rest on glass and good ammo. Most people can't shoot better than the gun these days...but they all say they can.

Also the Remmy 700 AWR looks sweet but I bet they shoot the same.

I agree. I bought my son a 783 and that thing is awesome! Spend the rest on a Nikon or Leopold scope. Not much difference in a gun, lots of difference in optics. Especially in that critical time of day when darkness is creeping up on you.

Spoke with a guy from Remington at the Cabela's counter when I bought it. He said it is basically the same gun as the 700. They changed their process for head spacing the barrel to the receiver. instead of checking the head space and machining until it was correct, they put the barrel on the receiver while using a gauge and then they really torque the nut on the barrel which holds it in place. The only thing that I dislike about it is that I like a rear tang safety for easy access. Like the savages have...
