Mike's Gun shop in Pensacola had stainless T3 Tikkas for $599. I dont own a Tikka but to the best of my knowledge, Tikka is the only brand that still guarantees 1" grop or 1 MOA accuracy out of the box in writing. Others used to claim it years ago, both Browning and Remington did, but no longer do. I've had an original Abolt, a Win Mdl 70 and a Rem 700REMF xcr that all shot 1/2" or better but none of them guarantee they will do it anymore and they are older model guns. All stainless, all composite stocked.

I saw the Tikka T3 Lite Stainless also . Personally I do not own one but for that price I would give it a try. They had 270 Win, 30-06 springfield and 300 WSM when I was in there the other day.I checked out the 270 great feeling gun.

If you have a grand to invest in a gun you should take a day and go to a sporting goods store, hold and shoulder every gun in there. Then go back and eliminate them one by one according to what you don't like until you find your best fit. You can get a very nice gun for that price range.

Tikka. Or a Savage. I have both in 308. The Savage is the weather warrior which is stainless synthetic and it'll put 3 165 grain accubonds completely under a quarter at a 100 yards. Off a shakey thrown together bench rest at that.

Check out the new Remington 700 AWR rifle it has a greyboe stock (McMillan), it's cerakote and has 5r rifling. I got mine before they hit the catalog for under $1000.

I was in the same boat 2 years ago and had roughly 1000 dollars to spend ...and I went with the browning xbolt in the 25-06 and I am very pleased with the rifle. Great shooting rifle and my daughter shot her first deer with it and my little girl is thin as a rail, she likes it because it has no recoil

I'll echo the recommendation of the Steyr Pro Hunter.

Steyr's US offices are at:

2530 Morgan Road
Bessemer, AL 35022
Phone: (205) 417-8644

You can go to their showroom there and see different rifles, prices, etc.

Same here. Hands down the most accurate rifle I've ever owned and that includes a Weatherby Custom Shop
