In the mornings do you like to have the wind blowing towards where you think they are bedding anticipating them coming back to bed down and so they don't wind you coming in and in the evening blowing out of bedding area anticipating feeding time. I know they can come from different directions so you just have to do your best. Would just like some other oppinions. What's your ideal wind setup
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:20

In my face always. If your going to hunt around bedding areas you had better be as close to damn sure as you can be that you know or have a very good idea where they are coming and going. Otherwise I suggest you back off of the bedding area and hunt the travel routes.

Always in my face. That way the targets odor is coming to me, not mine to them. Sometimes you can't get a co operative wind.

In the morning I'll always have my back to the bedding area and will only hunt that location if the wind is in my face. I'll never hunt, period, when the wind isn't in my face. When the wind shifts, I'll move or turn and face the other way hoping beyond hope to catch a straggler.
Never, ever, ever hunt with the wind at your back and expect good results. It can happen but that is just an anomaly.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I don't understand the wind in the face all the time deal. If the deer are bedding to the east and feeding to the west and the wind is out of the north then I might set up on the south side of their trail, facing the northwest. I always want deer walking broadside down my right side and never being directly in front or to the left of me. Reason being, I am left handed and shoot my gun and bow off the right side of my stand. With the deer on the right side, I never have to stand to shoot my bow or swap hands to shoot my gun. I guess, simply put, I like the wind to hit my right side first. I always think same My stand isn't always faced where I plan on shooting them

I am conscious of the wind, but don't really set up based on it when I climb. I climb 25' plus, and have a good range of view (not a bow hunter-don't like tight places with limited visibility). Go in as scent free as possible and hunt. I know where I think deer may appear, but outside of a food plot, who really knows in Alabama. I have killed as many deer "downwind" as any other direction. That said, I will not hunt a fixed stand on a plot with wrong wind.

Heck..I dont understand. I usually set up DOWNWIND of an active Deer run within 25-35 yards , so I can shoot it.
Dont yall hunt active runs?
Or do you just randomly pick your stand site.
I freaking LABOR over my stand trees...as to hunt an area correctly. With the right wind and not spooking them coming in...and not walking across the trail where they are coming so they wont pick up my ground scent.
I spend alot of time evaluating the sign, the trails to be at the exact right tree. Thats what works for me.

The only thing I see them walk with regularity is creek or fence crossings. Bear in mind, this is on flat, bottomland sites. I have found that deer can and do come from all different directions in this type of terrain. By default, this makes any wind direction, "bad."

I'm the same way as outdoorobsession.
I sure ain't gonna hunt morning or evening ever with my scent blowing into a bedding area.
I have my best luck hunting where deer are traveling east and west. I set up on the downwind side of their trail, typically in a transition zone between bedding and staging area. Hardwood bottoms are pretty, but I kill way more bucks on trails in the pines than in the hardwoods. I think mature bucks like to stay in the thicker cover during daylight.

I spend alot of time evaluating the sign, the trails to be at the exact right tree. Thats what works for me. Pretty much what I do as well. But we have to deal with thermals up here in hillbilly land. For that reason I hunt a hub and spoke set up often when they are really on their feet. I rarely hunt one trail. That way you are on multiple trails and a wind or themal shift won't shut you down. I always want to be in exactly the right tree, location, location, location! I have several spots with more than one stand at them.

My North wind or west wind stand 35 yards from that intersection is money. I have another one where three trails meet and go across a dam to a few islands. I have 2 stands on that x-ing..one for North wind and one for south wind. Ive seen deer cross that dam everytime Ive sat there. I run my cameras on both those xings too..heck , the beaver dam x ing is where I got that pic of the 8 pt I just shot this last saturday.
