My wife and I just moved into the local area and I'm trying to find a place to hunt in the surrounding area without having to drive to Fort Benning to hunt on base or Tuskegee NF. I'm willing to put in work and help with land development/food plots etc. I'm also willing to pay for a sublease etc. Feel free to shoot me an email @ bowtieguy18@gmail.com

Lowndes Wma is a good place... you can bow hunt all season with not much pressure besides the gun hunt weekends. What he said at this point of the game.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Thanks guys, I'll look into the Lowndes WMA. I was hoping to get up before opening archery. I think I'll try and set foot over at Tuskegee tomorrow, scout some and try and hunt one evening this week. Other than that I'll keep an eye on the forum!

Skeegee is some tough hunting due to all the pressure it gets from Auburn students. There's some deer out there in place though. I'd try Lowndes WMA before TNF.

Yeah, you're probably right. I looked into Lowndes but it is a far drive for me. Especially for a morning hunt. I heard there isn't much pressure during bow season, which is great for me because I bow hunt a lot. I need to get friends with a farmer and hunt an old cattle farm. Used to hunt one back home in Georgia and had a good bit of success.

I used to hunt the Lowndes WMA back when it was known as Bitoshomi Plantation, when June Collier owned it. We killed several nice bucks there and a truck load of hogs. If you spend your time looking around there are some really good places to hunt. I am not sure what the WMA has done with the land or if it all open, but we used to take a little boat down the river to spot that was loaded with white oaks but was surround by three other land owners. Killed some studs in there.

One of the biggest deer I ever saw was on the collier place. Was spraying cotton in a crop duster for Hoffman rhyne and we had to pull off the spray pass to miss hitting him. We circled watching him for at least 10 mins he was so big. In the big field in the SE corner of her place. That was around 2001

I will make my way over there eventually, went out to Skeegee the other afternoon and found a ton of turkey feed sign. (Know where I'll be in the spring.) The leaves are falling pretty steady so hard to find a good deer trail. Found a hardwood area that backs up to a swamp that had a lot of tracks and feed sign around the white oaks, has a nice ridge looking down to it so that looks like my first go to spot. I've killed some studs coming out of swamp bottoms. My advantage is I'm young and willing to walk a few miles to find a gem and I'm also part goat (from the Appalachians so these hills are a joke.)

Yates WMA is around Tallassee. Depending on where you live in Montgomery, Tuskegee, Lowndes and Yates are pretty much the same distance from where you are. That place sucks, stay way away from there.....way way far away.
