We just finished up building a 2 acre duck pond on zero grade in some hardwood bottoms by a swamp that usually holds a 100 or so woodies in it. What works best for you who plant these type of ponds millet, rice, milo, corn or beans? I plan on planting it next spring/summer to late now to do anything.

I would spread corn in it this year, just to get them used to it. Next year, I'd plant strips of corn to hide in, and the rest in millet.

I wouldn't put out any corn if you are planning on hunting it this year...

I was planning on planting corn in it next year but wanted to see what other people did.

Plant corn and broadcast millet under the corn during August. If you are not hunting it this year, put out a corn feeder and try to attract ducks. They do imprint and may return next year.

I would have built it on a slight grade so that as the season moves along you can flood a little at a time by raising the water level.

Woodies seem to like Jap Millet. That's what I usually plant in duck ponds. Easy to grow.

No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
