I got a chance to take my dog with a few guys with dogs. Is that a good idea or do I need to just hunt solo with my pup and let him figure it out on his own

It doesn't hurt them but I'm not sure if it really helps either. My dog won't tree with anyone else's dog. She doesn't care if your dog is treed or not she's going to find her own squirrel. I like that

We will burn that bridge when we get there

When I have a puppy that's not teeing yet I don't mind hunting with other dogs. It gives them some socializing and they can learn from the other dogs too. Once they start treeing good I like to hunt them solo.

"Deer hunting used to be the pinacle of hunting-what you graduated to after learning to hunt small game. Trying to throw a kid into stand hunting, without having ever learned to HUNT is probably an effort in fultility." BSK

With a cur I always been told to hunt solo till they figure it out or as much as possible but I don't know what it would hurt. I would just ask the guys if they wouldn't shoot any game down unless your dog got in on the action

My opinion is to hunt them alone till they are treeing good. If your dog is trailing game and working tracks, it won't be long. Especially if it gets a chase on with a squirrel.

He isn't doing much of nothing right now he smells and runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. Been having trouble getting around a squirrel. He will Chase a tail on a stick. I'm green at this just keeping him in the woods much as possible

Still a pup at 9 months, I hear all the time that some start at 5 months. My best dog didn't really start good until a year old.

To young for that. Hunt him on his own till he starts treeing and staying treed with the meat. You can ruin a pup hunting him with strange dogs and picking up bad habits. Beware of a mean tree dog.It only takes one time to ruin a young dog. Hunt him for a year and then think about taking him with others.
