I have an area that I'm thinking about accessing with a bicycle to keep down the pressure of driving my truck in. Any suggestions on what kind on bike and experiences using one. I would park my truck and ride the bike less than a mile to my hunting area.

Lot of people ride bikes up here on Wheeler and Bankhead. Some of the best ideas I have seen were where bikes were modded to carry the stand in. A few I have seen you could carry the stand and a deer out. Most of these ih they had stand and deer they had the deer on the bike and were pushing it out. A couple I have seen using the trikes like are used in plant maint. depts.. On private land though ride in on bike...kill one...ride out to truck or 4 wheeler. But I have seen some nice redneck engineering on some bicycles.

If the soil is really sandy it will be tough. You can get the fatter tires now that will help in the sand. I think it sounds like a great idea.

I'm not interested in hauling stands in or deer out for what I need. I found this one at Walmart. It's a cheap Huffy but may be OK for the little I use it.

Mountain Bike

I got one like that for one of my kids a while back. Lasted about a year of light use. I would suggest a better quality bike but it will work if that's what you want just to try it. Brakes sucked, tires wore out fast, couldn't keep the derailleur adjusted.

My dad always said the problem with a bike is you work your legs off to give your ass a ride.

I used a mountain bike a few yrs ago hunting some public land that was walk in only.
I finally just started walkin in because there was sand and I ended up sweatin more than if I had walked. If you in shape it will save you some time though

I had an old cheapo ATB that I used on public land worked great you can cover distance fast. Id get off and walk up hill or in sand but down hill or flat was fine.

I've gone in on a bike when turkey hunting, before.

my buddy tried it at eufaula refuge, said it started as a good idea, but it turned out it was pretty hard on them, think it wore them out, put it this way- they didnt do it twice, btw, eufaula is flat-
