Because of work schedule I've got to plant Tuesday.

Planting clover with the throw and mow method. With no rain in forecast will the Nitrogen in trip 13 burn everything up, should I use 8 10 10 instead?

I've had the soil tested and everything is low.

Thank you.

central ala,
I'd be more worried about it dissipating.

I forgot to mention.

Already applied 50 lbs trip 13 and 50 lbs lime in each field about 2 months back.

Each field is roughly between .25 .50 acre

Don't know your schedule, but I wouldn't do either without a rain forecast. If you just have to throw the seed out, go ahead with that. But after reading your second post, I would definitely wait for a better forecast and fertilize later.

I just bought some 16-4-8 to put out. Last year we used 10-10-10 and it did fine. Latest soil test indicated a need for higher N and 0% P so we're going to try this.

I wouldn't plant anything right now in my area. I'll probably wait till mid to late October.

It be's that way sometimes.

It is my understanding that you don't want or need nitrogen with any legume such as clover. The nitrogen will only help the growth of competing weeds. Just need to make sure your seed has the right inoculation.

^^^ This is true. I use 0-20-20 when I have clover plots and will be reestablishing 14 acres of clover in the coming weeks. I was quoted $443 per ton of bulk 0-20-20 at the coop closest to our lease.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

Winston Co. Unfortunately I don't have any other option then to plant tomorrow if I am going to have a green field opening day of bow season.

Sounds like 0 20 20!

Clover is something that you plant in the fall and it comes on in the spring. I wouldn't try to plant a clover plot right now in hopes of hunting it opening day of bow season. If you have no choice but to plant now then mix your clover with a cereal grain blend and double up on the seeding rate. Go ahead with the 13-13-13....fertilize according to the soil test....you'll want some N on cereal grains.

If your pH isn't above 5.3-5.4, clover won't do squat. Also, clover doesn't need nitrogen, it makes its own. You need to add some oats wheat or rye or you won't have a greenfield until spring. The cereal grains will need nitrogen. It's mighty hot and dry to be planting now. Better off looking for some acorns to hunt early.

when planting clover use 8-20-20 or something close. When fertilizing existing clover use no nitrogen. They do recommend some nitrogen at planting.

We've planted Imperial Clover fields without adding cereal grains and have had good plots the first year. That being said we usually add 25 lbs to the acre of either wheat or oats just to have a little more food the first year. I don't like planting more cereal grains than that b/c it will compete with the clover the first year and my main goal is to establish a clover field as quickly as possible.

not sure why my experience has been so different, but one of my best fields 4 years ago was a brand new Imperial Clover field with nothing but new clvoer. We are replanting that field again this year with 10 lbs to the acre of Imperial Clover
