Do you spray before bushoging or after? I'm worried if I bushog the tall field first spraying won't get to what I'm trying to kill.

It all depends on how high your stuff is. For me, if it's high enough to bushhog it's dang high, and I'm cutting first.

If it's too tall then you'll have a hard time getting a good kill on it. Very often you'll have stuff growing in the mid or understory that doesn't get sprayed. Spraying after bushhogging actually works pretty good even though you'll here folks say not to.

When I bushog before I spray I have to push all the weeds & grass out of the plots.

When I spray and wait about 3 weeks it just turns to dust when I bushog

Just what has worked best for me I just raise boom up and put a little poison on it

Glad we cleared that up.

Only two of my eight fields are about 24" high. the other six are probably 10". Thinking I'll bushog all of them then maybe retreat the two if I need to. Thanks for all the input. Always helps to hear different opinions.

Spray then toss a match to it a few weeks later.

This works WAY better than anything else. It can take an overgrown field down to dirt. I'm not brave enough to burn on my own, but I've seen it in action.

Its bush hog and spray for us. Too overgrown to get a good kill. This is this morning.

I like to bush hog and go back a couple weeks later after a rain and spray..... Then plant on the next rain event.

Mow, wait about a week for regrowth, spray and wait for it to turn brown, disc a firelane around and then burn. The bare dirt after burning is so easy to cut it makes the process well worth the trouble. We bought a drip torch for the burning

I am going to knock the tops off mine tmrw only where needed and spray either right after or Monday. Then plant next week.
This will be my 3rd year to T&M, the first year I mowed a couple weeks before and didn't have enough thatch, which resulted in a slower start. Last year and again this year I will mow just low enough so my sprayer tips are clear of the standing grass.

Our fields have 6 ft tall johnsongrass and 3 to 4 ft tall assortment of weeds. Spraying wouldn't work, you could probably spray and disk in a few weeks to be honest.

I sprayed everything then bush hogged. I sprayed roads and fields and it made for quick bush hogging and looks really good.

I have some Johnson grass I havn't been able to permanently kill, but in mid August I spray with Gly and some 2-4D mixed and then the end of Sept I can disc and plant without the hassle of grass. It just cuts up well after spraying and laying out.

Get a good bottom plow and turn it in. I do some of mine that way and it makes it easier to disc as well.

It be's that way sometimes.

Seems like cutting first would make more sense giving you less to have to spray through. But if cutting first just leaves a bunch of thatch laying on top, I don't guess there's any advantage.
Does that make me Captain Obvious?
