Pretty sure this is just a matter of individual preference, and probably even site specific, but when do most of you close your pool?

Summer isn't over until September the 23rd. So I've never understood the rush folks have nowadays to end summer. It's like on July 5th summer is over. I swim until it's to damn cold to do so. Heck the pool water doesn't get nice and cool to enjoy until mid September.

I never understood that either. They would close pools Labor Day in Orlando growing up and it star mid 80's through November. IMO it's Not so much a weather thing but a popularity things. Kids are back in school, holidays, are coming up, football is starting. There are at better things to do on Saturdays this time of year than the pool

School basically starts in late July now. They're eager as heck to get kids away from having fun and back to staring at an iPad all day so they can make 1 point better on some standardized test.

Back when I was forced to live in an apartment complex when I first moved to Alabama, they would close the pool the day after Labor day. Of course there were another two solid months of hot pool weather but it didn't matter.

October is usually the end of swimming for us in bham. I think I'm going to leave it open this year, maybe with a leaf cover as we are surrounded by huge oaks. The regular cover is nothing but a gigantic nightmare.

this. Just make sure the ph stays good 7.5-7.8 and as long as the water temp is below 50-55* you won't need to add any chlorine.

Either, when water temp falls below 78, or before the leafs begin to fall. IMO

From what I understand, apartment pools close the day after Labor Day so that the kids will do homework instead of hangign out at the pool all afternoon. A lot of kids go home from school unsupervised anyway and this keeps them away from the pool.
I don't have a pool, but if I did, I would leave mine "open" until October 15.

I shut mine down by the end of September. 2 cool nights kill the pool temp. Plus I get tired of putting money in it.

Yeah, my primary concern was the leaves on the water oak trees in back yard, then my schedule getting busy with hunting and football. Oh well, probably not THAT much of a pain to cover up, so I'll probably leave it alone until Octoberish.

I used to but only run in the middle of the day now. We put a solar heater in this year so the timer had to get reset.
