Never use crack corn on a field you intend to hunt. Truth A pecked head gw will write you a ticket for 6 moldy kernels In front of a game camera. Ask me how I know

I put a bag out at my buddy's place around his pond today. The water is way down with about 12ft of dirt around it. The birds drink there but was thinking the corn will bring more in. I'm going back next week to see how much has been eaten. Have yall done this before? You need to get a shovel and go scoop up every kernel

Conservation infractions are arrest. You have two options when breaking game and fish laws. One is to the sign the ticket. It's not admitting guilt. It's agreeing to pay the bond amount specified if you don't appear before the judge. The other option is going to jail.
To clarify on the ag practices, throwing 200 lbs of wheat on a dry pond bed a week before season is not for erosion. A seedbed must be prepared first. Cracked corn in the the field is illegal period. That all needs to be gone before you hunt, and I mean like every cracked kernel.
There's no need in trying to skirt around the legality here. It's very easy to prepare a dove field legally. Just break ground and top sow wheat. For small acreage property with millet planted for dove and a feeder on the property for deer, what can be done to stay legal? Pull the feeder a couple weeks before the shoot or what?

Green britches will ticket you. I got one a couple years ago because i didnt plant at the right date. Hunting over bait is what i got on opeing day. Wont name names because he's a member here as well name some names...I stand behind every arrest I've ever made.

While we are on the subject, I've got a few acres of pasture that I planted in fescue last fall. The early drought killed a lot of the fescue. There is enough remaining that I dont want to till this up again. Would it be legal to overseed this with wheat & hunt over it? There would be good seed to soil contact for sure, just not tilled.

I use the throw and mow method. I have millet planted that i just sprayed. My plan is to throw out my seed for my deer planting on this field and then mow down my millet over the top of the seed. This is how i plant all my plots. Is this legal to hunt over?

When it comes to "good seed to soil contact" you must either till and prepare a seed bed or you need to drill the wheat to be legal. According to CNC that's a normal Ag practice

I'm not Matt(thank goodness ), but no, "throw and mow" are not recommended by the extension service for food plot preparation and thus not legal to hunt doves over. I think we can beat this to death but obviously the good officers of this state will be able to discern between the obvious baiting situation and a guy doing it the right way.

I have a story I could share, but before that, what is the statute of limitations on being over the bag limit on doves? Federal 30 years......
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I know what you are saying. I was just explaining for his fescue pasture. But, yes In soybean and cotton fields there are ways to plant without drilling or tilling.

I plan on running a subsoiler across the hills to help hold my seed & fertilizer & keep from washing but each "row" or pass would be around 6-8' apart. No way I'm gonna kill what little grass is there now.

I think I would be better off feeding a drum of wheat & a drum of cracked corn to my cows & let them distribute it. Surely that would be considered a normal agricultural practice since I feed grain anyway.

I've never understood the baiting law for dove. I mean i understand it, but to me, its stupid. Instead of having baiting laws and making you have a plug in your shotgun, why don't they just enforce the limit rule. You can only kill 15. Enforce that. Who cares if you bait or use an unplugged shotgun, you can't kill but 15. I planted millet for one reason, to bushhog it down and to kill dove. Basically i'm baiting anyway, just not in the eyes of the law.
