I've never been there before but apparently my check card has. Yep, looks like I got hit by sorry pieces of crap thieves. Thankfully Regions bank fraud department refused the transaction and shut the card down. There's a few small "test" purchases on my account totaling about $15.00 I have to go in and dispute but it looks like that's about it. I'd love to get my hands on the people that does this crap.

Mine just got hit about 2 weeks ago. Same thing tried a couple small purchases in Flordia but thankfully credit union shut it down. I was at grocery store with a buggy full of food and my card got declined. Pissed me off at first but when I found out what was going on I was very thankful.

How they get your card info?Mine was stole thru red box a couple years back You make a purchase...somewhere...anywhere really, and that company gets their systems hacked. You and 50,000 other customers have their cards compromised.

Our Regions account was hit a few weeks ago as well...Purchases also came from Florida. Luckily they caught it and it was nothing more than the bank issuing my a new card.

I don't know about debit cards, but I have seen where some credit cards now have a feature where you can "lock" the card from your phone to prevent it from being used until you "unlock" it again to use (although I think it was designed to be used if you realized you left your card somewhere or lost it).

Funny thing is mine has the new chip that's supposed to make it more secure.

Funny thing is mine has the new chip that's supposed to make it more secure. It only protects the card from being cloned and even that is questionable. It will never stop someone from being able to steal your number and make purchases over the internet. Anytime you're at a restaurant and the card is taken to the back by the server, all your info can be copied and used over the net. Thieves will always find a way.

This is the reason I never use a debit card anymore, only a credit card.

Chips are a false sense of security. The chips have been in use in Europe for over 12 years and eliminated all card cloning which is the largest portion of credit card theft. I'm talking eliminated 100% of it. The technology has a glitch over here in that the stripe is where the information is that tells the credit card machine that it's a chip card. That can be disabled and they can clone the card as a stripe only card. That will get fixed and as every card becomes a chip card there will be no vulnerability. That sounds absolute because it is. I could go into greater detail but it would take too much time. The chip technology really isn't there to protect the customer, it's there for the card companies, banks and retailers. It's an inconvenience for the consumer if your card info is stolen but you get your money back. The card issuer and sometimes the merchant is the ones who lose.
