I've been on a bunch of good ones. As far as just being a fun enjoyable hunt dw's hunt last year was at the top of the list. I agree. I was a not so well known aldeer guy and he treated me as one the VIPs. If I could actually shoot, I could have killed a pile of birds. Best I have been on.

The funnest ones I ever had were behind Saginaw Steering Gear on Swan Creek. We used to tear them up back there in the 80's. Had another one by myself on my daddy's place. Just happened to catch two or three every couple of minutes, fly over a dead tree in the corner of a pasture for almost an hour. Got 11 with one box. Couldn't get the last one with the next box. But I was grinning ear to ear when I came out. We used to walk cotton fields and shoot them on the rise like quail. That was fun too. We would always get some when nobody else did.

I hadn't doves hunted in years but might this time. Got on a good one many years ago in a cut corn field at Red Hill. My grandparents had a farmer plant millet on his place one year and it was good. Shot a limit both places. Didn't get greedy and try to murder a bunch. I got a 20-ga bps that is screaming "Take me wingshooting.'

Late 70s through the mid 80s on the family farm in Carroll County, MS. Friends and family would all gather for hunts. Barrel burners were common.

When I was in the eighth grade the varsity football team lost to a team that was absolutely pathetic the Friday night before opening day. They had struggled to win the game before that. They were two time defending state champs and predicted to win it all again that year. Me and my dad loved watching them play and never missed a game home or away.
Well during summer camp there was a quarterback change from the previous starter that won a state championship. A lot of folks thought a change was made due to the other quarterbacks daddy was a good friend and college buddy of the head coach plus they moved across the state just so his son could play for him. Others said it was because they changed offenses and he lost the job. That didn't sit to well with that daddy and others.
So Saturday morning my Daddy tells me that he and I were invited to a dove shoot that was being put on by a farmer friend of his and that the majority of the varsity football team would be there as well as the coaches.I thought this is great!
My Daddy and I get to our spot right before the shoot and I see the head coach across the field from us plus some of the football players and their dads.
Birds start flying in and the shoot begins! I'm all excited! Then all the sudden the head coach starts yelling and cussing at some hunters down from him. They had peppered his ass a couple of times and he was pissed to say the least. Next thing I know they get in a fight in the middle of the dove field after exchanging cuss words that I only heard my cousin say before.
My Daddy and others run over to break things up while I stand there watching. After they get them apart and they get up it was the former quarterbacks daddy that shot the coach and whooped his ass.
Me and my Daddy didn't kill any birds that day so it wasn't our best but it was the most memorable experience in a dove shoot I ever had.
That coach left at the end of the year and I always wondered if he ever went dove hunting again.

My first shoot. I went with a cousin and an uncle when I was 13. I was shooting a single shot 20 ga with a super-full choke. Don't remember how many birds I killed, or even IF I killed any, just know it was a ton of fun, I shot start to finish, had shot raining down on me all afternoon, and even got shot a couple times, but I'd do it all again tomorrow...time of my life! I was interested in hunting before that day, but that shoot sealed the deal, for me!

For a couple of years, the youth hunt at Draper prison in Elmore county was awesome. My son and I melted the barrels for several years.
Went on a real good hunt put on by the Alabama Ag Credit a few years ago. Limited in about an hour.
Got on a private hunt just past the airport in Lowndes county on opening day in 02 or 03. Other than just wearing out the birds, I listened to Alabama lose to Oklahoma while on the dove field. I think everyone limited that day and there were at least 75 shooters. Huge cut wheat field and birds poured in all day.

We had some good shoots across the river from the red eagle prison farm in with wetumpka.
We hunted a place in 6 mile when I was 12 or so years old that had so much cracked corn on the ground youd have to stop and empty your shoes out several times before you made it across the field.
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Another memorable shoot for me was one about a mile down the road from my house. I was in the USCG and had a couple friends from my ship up with me. By this time, I'd graduated to a 12 ga pump, one of my buddies had his own shotgun, and I borrowed one from from a lifelong friend for the other guy. When we left the house to shoot that day, the guy with the borrowed gun grabbed an extra shell vest I had...I didn't pay any attention, but the vest he grabbed was the one where I stored all my magnum buckshot! About halfway through the afternoon, Don came down to where I was and said, "man, this gun kicks like a pissed off mule!" As soon as he said that, I recognized the vest he was wearing and broke out laughing! He'd probably been through 50 rounds of 3" magnum OO buck, and even had a bird or two to show for it! That was 1981, and to this day, Don's nickname is "Double Ought".

^^^ that reminded me for the last 2 years me and my son been shooting some birds in the yard. We sit about 5-6 from each other. He shot a couple of shots and my dang ears was ringing, I move over a few feet, he said something along the lines of, "how do you sit, so the recoil dont knock you off the bucket" I showed him real quick, couple more birds come in. boom boom boom. Now the whole right side of my face is numb. I look over, to see whats going on. He had took the 3" buckshot shells off the stock holder and loaded them up.
That one and the year before, we he actually started shooting birds, has to be the most memorable.

I have enjoyed the past two years at DW's. By the way, where has he been hiding? I also have had a few good shoots at a neighbor's FIL's farm just down the road from home.

About 30 years ago i was over seeing a farm for a retired judge and he had some pastures next to the river. I shot 15 boxes of shells that day, and i'm ashamed i only killed the limit. At the telephone pole where i was sitting it looked like a machine gun nest at Omaha beach on D-day. Sounds like my Dove shooting. I shoot pretty dang good on Quail hunts, but I really suck at shooting Dove.

2008 in El Campo, TX. We hunted a 200-ac sunflower field. There was wave after wave of mourning dove and white-winged dove. Several skilled wingshooters around me limited out in less than 15 minutes. It took me about twice that long and at least twice the amount of ammo to get a limit.
