Have them in my yard and spreading. Shaped like a tiny maple leaf (flat with three prongs) about the size of half a pencil eraser. Turning brown. I understand most critters like this prefer poor sandy soil. I'm thinking of applying Eraser to the areas and killing everything(there's not much there except them!) about the size of a car. Then spot spraying other areas. But what then? I read use a very high nitrogen fertilizer, lime and compost (I have access to an unlimited supply of composted horse manure from stabled horses, no weeds). The areas are so brown I think they would actually burn? (Only 1/4-3/8" high). I would also like to plant some grass seed and/or sod areas that are highly visible (front walk). Need advice!

I've noticed small brown spots in my yard this year and while walking barefoot this week I've learned not to step on them. My first thought was sand spurs but I never heard about them in North Alabama??? It just looks like a spot of dead grass.

Kill it in late winter, while the grass is still dormant. Spray it twice, about 10-14 days apart, with Atrazine, around early-mid February. Take care to get it all...it's so tiny that it's real easy to overlook small patches of it. If you don't kill it before the heat makes it die off, you're too late, and it's already seeded again for next year.
