Got a box call and headed to the farm. (we always see turkeys deer hunting so why not)

did some calling last night and walking. (probably to much) but had 7 fly off from a huge field we just did a burn on last weekend into some trees. Should we have chased them? it was about 5:30 pm and they flew about 100 yards from us. Were they on their way to my initial calls from 20 minutes earlier and I should have not kept walking?

this morning we heard faint gobbles at daylight, returned to that area about 8 and it happened. in that same area from the night before we had one gobbling its head off at 75 yards (not in sight though).. It answered my box call a few times and then it faintly got weaker. What should we have done? we decided to go at an angle and up stream it but it never gobbled again back to us. Should we have stayed put and not called anymore once it gobbled 4-5 times at us?

Lastly as we were walking out at 10 we jumped one and it flew over us to some trees ( same general area all the action took place) is it a lost cause to go after those once you spook them?

We honestly had no clue what we were doing but saw about 10 in a total of 6 hours hunting. any help would be greatly appreciated

#1 rule of turkey hunting is don't spook the turkey. Sounds like you are in a good area where the turkeys want to be. Sit longer, call less and scratch in the leaves.

What AUcoonhunter said. Scaring the turkey off is the worst thing you can do. Scroll up to the top of the turkey forum. There's a sticky up there for turkey advice and I would read through all five pages. Honest to goodness there is a collection of turkey hunters on this forum that are the best in the country... I'm not one of them but I'm learning thumbup
