I remember when you could not trust anyone over the age of 30. The world was going to be at peace when we got out of Viet Nam and there would be rainbows and unicorns everywhere, It was the age of Aquarius. Folks, that was in the 60s and 70s.
Most of us out grew that and we have moved on.
We were called long haired hippies,
So tell me guys, are the youths of today that much different from the youths back then?
Or the Flappers from the early 20th century, or the lost generation from between the world wars?
Every generation sees what they perceive as the mistakes of their parents and vow to correct them. As they age and gain experience in the world or reality they find out their parents weren't so wrong after all.
The mistake today is in not confronting the idealistic youths and letting them know that they can moan and piss all they want, but no one will give a tinker's dam.
I will admit that I was pretty privileged as a young man. I had the advantage of the opportunity to obtain a great education. I had a car, and a lot of pretty girls to date. I let my hair get longer and had those great big sideburns, and listened to music my parents could not stand. I smoked and drank and slept late when I could and stayed out late.
BUT I grew up and became a productive member of society a respected member of my community and I have been told a pretty good father grandfather and husband.

So don't panic. I feel like it will all work out. I look at Doekiller and his son and I see a bright future for this country.
The thing is that the ones doing the pissing and moaning are not the ones who will take the trouble to actually try to do anything to make the changes they want, until they grow up and by then they will have developed some sense.
I am an old man and I am entitled to my opinion and to heck with anyone who thinks otherwise.

I agree with this, but one problem with it is these idealistic youths with their parents, social media and support of other like-minded adults immediately turn like wolves on a sick elk and begin the gnashing wailings of "Bigot! Racist! Silence yourself!"

But I agree with you. They could use a good dose of Wake the Hell Up and hearing that no one cares what they're yelping about.

Part of the problem, as I see it, is that the aging maturation and experience process is taking much longer than it did with your generation. When a kid can live in their parents' basement and still get health insurance until they're 26 then the process of getting real world experience takes longer. I will say this, though...you've been my age once but I've never been your age. You've lived through and seen more life and change than I have. I put a lot of weight in your experience and hope that what you're describing will happen.

good read but unfortunately, there are many who don't develop much if any sense. i work retail (selling guns and outdoor equipment) and wonder how some people are walking around upright crazy.

Y'all should also realize this is only 30-40 students. The one without any sense is the University President, who is almost assuredly over 50.

Good post. I grew too grew up in 60's & 70's and I try to give these young kids a pass based on work ethic. I was on the job site at sun-up and we didnt stop working until we couldnt see and that was dark ...I think I was 15 or 16....been a long time ago. Some of the kids today have not been taught how to build things properly, mentored, and kicked in the arse, and develop a "can do" attitude. When I left for college I knew my time was up at home, and I didnt want no more of the physical work I "was made" to endure. Work ethic goes a long way today, and I question what I see at times.

I was a young "hippie". Smoked pot, rebelled against society..but dang..I grew up in farm country and worked my arse off.

However when guys a few years older then me I grew up with started getting killed in Vietnam.. I said screw that hippy crap.
At 15 I was in Texas on my own and working. I ended up joining the army just befor I turned 18 , and they take all the hippie out of you believe me.

I think that these kids really just dont work.

I learned trades when we were young..hippie or not. How to sand, tape cars for painting. then to prime..and paint. How to roof, lay carpet. Trades..physical hands on WORK. These kids do not like that at all.
We need more kids learning trades and less going to college causing a glut of college educated kids with no jobs, and a bunch of tradesman jobs needing people.

Just my opinion though.

the youth of today for the most part have no work ethic. Every summer starting at age 15 I was stacking square hay bales on 18 wheeler. You can't get most of them now to even cut the yard. Just my opinion.

Get rid of the messsicans and skilled physical labor will again be a decent paying job to the average American, and kids will go to work with daddy again, farming , painting, framing houses. It may cost a little more to get your house painted, and watermelons might go up in price , but atkeast your neighbor want be getting a foreclosure sign.

And you felt dang good at the end of the day when you realized how hard you worked didn't you! Hard work is good work. Kids don't know how enjoyable and rewarding hardwork can be anymore.
