He gobbled at every call. Even cut me off it was crazy. Most gobbles i have ever heard, and on public land wow! 72 gobbles Sunday morning. I had no decoy would that have sealed the deal?

It's hard to say, I wouldn't use a decoy on public land myself. I imagine everyone does and he might run from it. Set up so he can't see you until he is within 40 yards and you might be able to get him to come look.

As a general rule of thumb, I'd say you were calling too much just from the sounds of it. Making a bird gobble a lot is fun, but not the best way to kill him a lot of the time.

Yek is right, setup where he can't look for the hen til he can be kilt

I know it. It was awesome seeing him strut back forth and then gobble at every thing for 45 min. I probably did call too much just got excited. i guess if he gobbles back at my call i need to stay quiet for a bit let come look??

If you can see him and your calling like that, most times you have lost the battle.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

I always set up so he has to look for me. I really don't like set ups where he can see where I'm calling from while he's still out of range.

Lots of good advice here. Generally speaking, the hen goes to the gobbler. When he approaches and gets to a point where he can see where the calling is coming from don't call and don't move. He knows EXACTLY where the calls came from and he expects to see a hen standing there. When he can see where you are and you call and he sees no hen…he smells a rat.

X2 on scratching leaves. Go quiet and just scratch every once in awhile. Like others have said setup where he has to search for you. Sometimes that doesn't leave the best shots and let's a few slip bye with no shot but it works.
