I am not sure if selling it to someone is not just as bad as what the taxidermist dit to your mount. I guess they do get to see it first and can always decline to buy it. Which is exactly what I would have done to the taxidermist when you went to pick it up. Just my two cents worth. Glad you were able to get some of your money back.

The email response that I got from the taxidermist was to give him a call. I did and he said that the forms are anatomically correct, and that all he does it mount the eyes after putting some clay around them and paint the nose. He couldn't do anything about the square head. He agreed that the nose color was a little off, and offered to repaint it, but thought, "the cat turned out fairly well".
He indicated that cats are all different and that it is hard to compare a mounted cat to a live one. He said he didn't look at the picture I sent him, but he sounded like he was happy with his result.
He did say that he appreciated my constructive feedback. I gotta throw the BS flag on that. I mounted a number of bobcats back in the day and I would never had asked a customer for money if one had turned out like yours. (Sorry) The forms for the most part ARE anatomically correct, but the problem is that many taxidermists either don't know how to properly measure an animal. The form he used is waaaay too big in the face. It probably matched the length measurement, but didn't match the eye to mouth corner measurement. He should either have ordered a smaller form and made the body longer, or called you and told you that he couldn't get a form like you wanted from his suppliers with the correct measurements. Another problem is that taxidermists are use to rubbing the hide, with the grain of the hair to smooth air bubbles and hide paste under the hides. You don't rub a bobcats face, or it gets flat and stretched out looking. 1 taxidermist out of 100 can mount a life-like cat. Unfortunately there is usually no middle ground on cats. Either look alive, or suck.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
