Today? I don't know what tournaments were going on. Saw some anglers on the water looked like high school teams. But the boat ramps were packed and overflowing. Most I've ever seen. I had thought briefly about going out but I don't think there would have been a spot to park.

I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. Most of the Coosa chain is producing the weights of Guntersville now.And not have to deal with the crowds.

Don't
Have to deal with the crowds if you know where to go. Fished the BFL last weekend and got a prime spot without anyone bothering us for nearly an hour. It's busy but most of them fish Seibold, goosepond, and south sauty. Head up River and it gets better with the exception of mud creek. You've got to take a number to get back in there most days.

That's the best news I've eard in a long time. I absolutely despise these tournaments up here at Guntersville. Regular fishermen have a helluva time getting a boat in the water sometimes due to these damn tournaments. Maybe some of these will head your way wink

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

And Logan Martin on the Coosa is as bad as Gville. I guess because it's on I-20 and so close to such populous areas (Birmingham and all it's suburbs), Oxford/Anniston.

I was told they had 256 in the high school tourney yesterday, and I know one of the clubs had 27 boats. They all planned to put in at Browns, but that club moved to Spring.

Ain't no fish in Guntersville anymore. It's been over-fished. Very best places to fish are Neely, Logan, Lay, Wedowee, Pickwick, Chickamauga and Nickajack. Y'all send everyone there for bass, crappie, cats and bowfishing.

Yeah they hammering em on Nickajack. Some guide caught 5 fish went over 50 lbs up there earlier this year. They say it's much better than Gville right now.

Anywhere on the big G on a Saturday morning is a bad idea. I do fish Guntersville but not near as often as I used to.

When I do, it's usually a weekday afternoon or at night when I don't have to fight the crowds near as much. Even the sea-dos and ski boats are easier to work around than the Saturday morning tourny crowd.

This is partly because I'm not fishing Eastlake or the Spring creek or Brown Creek bridges or anywhere else that the crowds gather.

I also like to use some of the lesser known ramps. These are usually not the best ramps though. There is a ramp in the state park that I like because there is rarely more than two or three boat trailers parked there. Even on Memorial or Labor day, there is usually no waiting. It's tucked in a slough over by the cottages. I guess seeing a few aldeer stickers over there wouldn't hurt my feelings any. It's a short ride from there to Short, Town, or Minky creek. and only a few minutes from the main river bridge.

The lower coosa has been packed so far this year.

My BIL's coworkers friends son said he heard at least 200 turkeys gobble on cahaba wma and even more on coosa wma this weekend. All y'all turkey hunters better go check it out grin

Coosa can't compare to Guntersville.....not even close...their May be a lot of people fishing it, but the bass fishing can't touch the big "G"

I tend to agree with tide to an extent. I have fished guntersville almost exslusively for the past year to learn it. I can catch fish all the time under just about any circumstance. However, it is harder to catch fish there than Logan or Lay. The fish are bigger on average at Guntersville but I can put together a stringer of quality fish on Coosa much easier. That stringer might be 5-10 lbs lighter but that's what happens when spots are the source of many catches.

I'd take certain lakes on the coosa or the alabama river east of prattville over guntersville any day. Swift creek is probably my favorite place to fish out of anywhere I've ever been

We will burn that bridge when we get there

No fish at pickwick..not worth the drive!
As far as the Big G.. it is overfished and way too many anglers everywhere you look. Boat ramps are full by 7:30am. There are 6 to 12 tourns every Saturday and people still catch big fish and weigh in huge bags. There still isn't anywhere that gives you the chance to catch a big largemouth like it. Just wont catch the numbers you will at other lakes and that is for sure! I was a captain in the high school tourn March 12. My son caught a 7.5pd and he came in 3rd for big fish. It was won with 9.5.
