Will a jake do a death run to a fan like a mature bird will?
I have killed two jakes in 34 years of turkey hunting. One was the first turkey I ever killed and the second was a couple of years ago when I called a wad of them up on an afternoon hunt with my son. Any chance I get to double with my son I will do it; I don't care what the birds are as long as they are legal and won't feel the least bit guilty about it.

. Only if he's a super jake and you use 2 Merriam jake fans in unison with one another

Aldeer posted about 22 pages worth of thread stating, that removing males from the population has ZERO impact on nest survival , breeding success, total population density per square mile, etc. etc. etc.
I wouldn't shoot a jake, and I've had many opportunities to do so, but if it's what somebody wants to kill, it shouldn't impact the turkey population based on the biological data that a miniscule number of male turkeys are needed to maintain a healthy breeding/nesting/poult population, so based on the other thread about lowering the limit, and what the experts say, it shouldn't hurt your total population, it will just lower the amount gobbling you might hear from year 1 to the next year.

True, even though I won't kill one since I want him gobbling next year. I would oppose a regulation for that reason. Very small percentage of the harvest in Alabama is made up of Jakes.

If you eat turkey..you'll shoot the hell out of a Jake.I would never make it a habit but the average working Joe isn't gonna hurt a healthy population by taking one out occasionally.

I'll kill one occasionally when I am in need of a new jake fan. This, Gobblers will come in a lot more aggressively to a Jake than any other Dekes (In My Opinion (IF YOU ARE USING DEKES)). I don't make it a habit though.

I've killed a handful over 30 years of hunting them but I do not shoot them on purpose. The last one I killed in Alabama was about 6-7 years ago. N2deer and I had hunted that morning and didn't do any good. I had an old road that run the back of my property and I had found where an old gobbler had been walking that road pretty regular. Because we didn't have any better options we slipped in there mid morning and set up on a little field of clover I had planted back there the fall before. We were going to invest an hour or two and do some calling. There was no place to really hide down by the field but there was a little hillside beside the field that was grown up in weeds and had a few little blow down trees. I got up in under one and Brandon got in one about 15 yards to my left. Mine was easy to sit under but his had some junk in it so he was cleaning his out. We had literally been there three minutes and I could hear sticks breaking and leaves rustling where he was trying to clear out a spot and then all of a sudden I hear "PUTT, PUTT"! Lol all rustling ceased and I eased up and could see a softball sized red white and blue head standing down in the road looking dead at Brandon's treetop. He didn't know I was in the world so I just eased up and cleaned his clock. Wound up beIng a jake lol.

Another funny story about that same bird. There was a thread on here at the time about how close you had ever killed a turkey. One guy said he made ones head explode he was so close. I wanted to try and do a skull to hang from my rear view mirror so I took that jake and took the skull out of his head. So just to mess with the exploding head guy, I posted a pic of the jake after I skulled him out and told him I had done the same thing with some new exploding Nitro loads that had been specially made for me by Nitro. Ol boy ate it up and started PM'ing me about how he could get some of those exploding loads from Nitro. LMAO! Here's the pic.

This is one of the few things Ms has got right imo, no jake shooting by the grown ups. That sounds good to me! I won't shoot them nor let my kids.
