I got a FB message from 49er a little while ago that the hunter survey results have been posted to the dcnr website. To whoever is responsible for getting this done, thank you! The turkey results are about like I suspected. There was a small drop in the statewide harvest of 5.7%, but hunter numbers went down by even more - 7.6%. Draw whatever conclusions you want from it, but one thing is clear - the turkey "crisis" that demands that we be "proactive" is not real on a statewide level. I do not for a second doubt that some of you are seeing declines in your areas, but they are apparently being balanced out by other areas that are either stable or increasing. These radical changes are being driven by some other agenda. http://www.outdooralabama.com/sites/default/files/Mail-Survey-2014-2015-Season.pdf

Yes Thanks for posting this.

Highest man-days ever to kill a bird at 12.6. These hunters are getting dumber and dumber.

On a side note, anybody got any land available to hunt in Greene County? Good gracious.
I hear the fine for trespassing is cheaper than a lease. Go for it.

Highest man-days ever to kill a bird at 12.6. These hunters are getting dumber and dumber. I noticed that. The more they watch tv, the dumber they get. Not the highest ever; it was 15.1 in 1981. Some think that era was the golden era for turkey hunting. And really, there isn't any significant change in the number from 2008-2015. That is when tv turkey shows really took off. I think the Greene Co numbers are an anomaly; they do say in the report that the standard error for the counties is really high. For some reason, there must have been an unusual number of Greene Co hunters that got the survey. That might have contributed to the standard error for the whole state being higher this year. Who knows on some of these things. Steve Bryant could tell us - anyone know him?
