This. We're so spoiled we don't even know it. Now, that's not saying this country is what it's supposed to be, but it STILL BEATS THE HELL out of working, raising a family, and living anywhere else.

This in spades.

A few years ago we went on a cruise trip with our daughter's dance crew and one of the stops was in St. Petersburg, Russia. Going through their customs area made me feel creepy and damned glad to be American. I was glad to get out of there.

America has its problems but we're the best country in the world .

I don't disagree, that right now it's the best place to live in the world. I'm talking about 15 or 30 years down the road. It could all come crumbling down pretty quickly, when you've got half the population socialized and half supporting them, with those numbers increasing and decreasing daily.

I've been fortunate or unfortunate enough to see a lot of the world and no place I want to live other than here. Do we have some problems, you betcha. But still better than most of the options.

Again, even 15 - 30 years down the road, these other places you dream of going aren't going to suddenly become "The Old USA I knew & loved". It gets bad here, it gets worse there.
Might as well saddle up and ride.

Y'all better rethink NZ. They are leftist. Socialized Medicine, Pro Homo, High Taxes and plenty of other socialist crap.
Switzerland is nice if you want to be told what to do with your money. Gun ownership is OK but ammo is another story.
Norway is the same. You can only have maybe 3 or 4 guns and when you take a dirt nap then it's up to the local authorities what happens to them.

I'm going to fall in with Fun4all on this one:

Dustin, I haven't looked into it too much but a quick glance at their tax structure makes it appear a little less than ours. Also, if I remember correctly, in order to immigrate there and work, you have to show some sort of financials to prove you won't be a liability. Seems you have to have a skill that's in demand or open a business. They require everyone to have skin in the game. Socialized medicine is there but even that is not the full blown welfare catastrophe that they have in the UK. It isn't perfect but it seems they have very strict immigration policies and they don't allow you won't go there and be a drain on society. Here is a link to their tax structure.

They've plenty of taxes, sales tax is about 12 -15% if I recall. Schools are bad, they've got a bunch of hokie crap with minority groups and the maori. You'll have to become bi-lingual because their english ain't ours.
I've visited. Nice country, nice people but I'd rather stay and duke it out for what I have.

I would never leave, I'm an American. I spent 24 years in service of this country. Anybody even remotely considering leaving has never spent anytime in another country. Most Americans have no idea how fortunate we are.

You don't run from a fight. I've served this country. I'll stay good or bad and try to make it a better place.

I intend to go back to one of the Carib Islands at some point but that is where I'm from. If I was looking for business or employment opportunities, NZ would be tops.
