I recently had my metal roof replaced with shingles. It looks like they did not put in a drip edge. Are there instances in which a drip edge is not required?

Thanks.

No you will have water being sucked back up and cause rot. They need to be added.

I'm no pro, but my understanding is if the shingles overhang enough the drip edge isn't really needed.

I would think the roof pitch and how much metal overhangs past the facia would be a big determining factor on if its needed. I would prefer a couple inches overhang without it over 1/2 overhang with it. I didnt put it on my last home when I installed my Metal roof but I left a good overhang of the metal an had no problems.

it it shingles, I took metal off because it was improperly flashed and leaked everywhere

No flashing is required if the shingles have an overhang as long as there is a starter strip...which is a 3 tab shingle turned upside down. My in laws own a roofing company so I have installed my fair share.
