You do the inside the perentheses first, getting 12, then multiply, getting 24.

Then 48 divided by 24 is 2

The end result is multiplying 24x12. I'm 99% sure that I'm at least 50% right laugh

Both answers (2, 288) are technically correct the way the equation is written. It's ambiguous as written. If you want to render it solvable with one answer, you must write it either as:

(48/2)(9+3), which would be 288, or

48/(2(9+3)), which would be 2.

Its mixed notation. 288 or 2 could be correct.

But you are adding parenthesis that are not part of the original problem.
As written 48/2(9+3)
Using P E M D A S
parenthesis first 48/2(12)
multiplication or division, left to right 24(12)
equals 288

You can check it HERE

My thought as well, although it's been 15+ years since I've done anything like that.

No, please see the link I provided for the correct setup.

I saw the link you provided, but I can provide a link that says your link is no more correct than mine is...

https://math.berkeley.edu/~gbergman/misc/numbers/ord_ops.html

General math "etiquette" says that multiplicaion by juxtaposition takes priority over other processes. So, in essence, is a/bc correct as....

a
bc

OR

a/b
c

General math etiquette says that it should be the first, but that doesn't agree with PEMDAS.

In both examples, the original equation posted and the one I just posted, they are written ambiguously/poorly and can yield two different answers according to which school of though one subscribes to.

Do it step wise like you are supposed to:
48 / 2 * (9+3)
48 / 2 * 12
24 * 12

= 288

Y'all go punch it in a calculator or type the equation in Google. You'll get 288
