Never heard that even mentioned. Better try some well established plants next year. everything depends on your goals. If you just want a place to kill deer plant wheat and oats. If you want to help the deer gain weight and draw them from other properties plant plots that produce lots of forage, plant summer and fall. visit deer management section of this site.I see you haven't been here long so I'll say welcome ! hunt safe

I think this is what he's talking about:

http://m.southernhabitats.com/site/sweet-tea-seed.php

I don't know of anyone who's tried that. Before I invested too much money in something not well known I would want some trusted references to ensure its not a gimmick

$35 a shaker, damn that stuff is gold ! I might spread some in one of my salad bar plots, but no way in hell I'd buy enough to plant an acre.

this looks really interesting. Ive tried iron peas and summer blend and the deer dont seem interested. Seems like the thing to do is buy 1 and plant in an area to let it sread year to year to grow. Apparently you cant share the same space with the winter planting

At $35 a shaker you better have deep pockets if you want to plant a decent sized area.pcamper I suggest you plant iron clays soybeans and corn in same plot and mix them. It comes up thick and provides plenty of forage. You can cut your cost by planting feed seeds and use alot of seeds. Spend your money on fertilizer.

I planted a bunch, $300 worth, in FL. It grew and propagated and is now a perrinial in several plots. The problem I have is my deer do not eat if. Maybe the turkey and quail eat the seeds. I now use iron clay peas and aeschenomyne in my warm season mix and the deer love it, gobbling it up all around the unmolested sweet tea.

I prefer Clorox stumps to sweet tea.

Pretend like you are a farmer and plant soybeans and watch them get eat up.

Beware of planting around farm land, the farmer may shoot you because it's also known as Iron weed or Teaweed. Farmers HATE it! UF did a study on it as a plot for wildlife that showed useage, but the cost and risk reward factor says it's not worth planting to me.

First, get the soil tested. Amend the soil per the recommendations from the lab, as best you can. Then plant what will grow best in your soil conditions. As others have said, to keep deer around and draw in new ones, you got to plant enough good stuff for them to spread the word and come back for more. Check out the QDMA forum on here. There are a lot of good threads on planting green fields and caring for them. Some good people who are glad to share their knowledge and offer tips. Good luck to you.

Here is a link to an old thread on this topic that I started, but I'm no longer interested. Too many options that are better in my opinion

Fellas I just stumbled across this thread and thought I would weigh in. I'd like to point y'all to our facebook page which has a photo album on ST with lots of pics and info.

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.576241399065258.1073741828.123489511007118&type=3

I also had a new brochure created with a lot of detailed content. BTW ST is NOT an invasive plant. It is native. Sida spinosa is also called Teaweed or Ironweed but it is a serious pest to farmers. This plant is Sida acuta. If anybody is interested, please contact me at joe@southernhabitats.com

There are also a lot of pics and more comments on Georgia Outdoor News forum.
