For camping/woods gun consider how your going to carry a large bore wheegun, epecialy if it has an optic. I use a bandolier style shoulder rig with a couple of speedloaders attached. Speed loaders are filed with a mix of hornady 240gr xtp and 240gr semi-jaceted wadcutters. My favorite carry guns for camping/woods is a smith 19 or a ruger Redhawk 44mag with a 5.5" barrel backed up with an old colt frontier scout 22lr in my pack. Thee ruger triggers are easily improved by polishing and a lighter spring set, don't go too light on the springs especially in a double action because a light spring may not ignite the primer when shooting double action.

Check out smith & Wesson 460 , I shot a doe at 140 yards a dropped her in her tracks . The recoil is not bad and it's a real 250 yard pistol round .
