They rutted in north and central Marshall county back at the start of the month. The 9 point I shot this past Monday dropped about 30 pounds since the pics I had of him in late December and almost every doe and buck I had pics of in that time period were all brushed/roughed up from rutting. The "second" rut is starting a little, but good deer can be had regardless of "being able to hunt the rut"

Best of luck...sounds like they may already have rutted. Can't see how deer only 30 min away are rutting a full 1-1.5 months later than others, but stranger things have happened

I think you should study up on Alabama rut. Some areas only a few miles there's a difference of two weeks or more in breeding periods.

I have, hence the reason I said stranger things have happened and it's not the same year to year in the same areas. Last year they rutted late in North Marshall where I am, this year they did it 3 weeks sooner. I know a few folks down around Albertville already have watched them rut earlier this month. It sucks not getting to hunt the rut in certain parts of the state but deer can and are killed each year regardless of the rut. Just takes putting in the seat time...but I understand some have more than others available. To each his own though, as regardless of what decision the state does or does not make somebody will always be negatively impacted in their or others' opinions...

You've finally given extreme south AL a chance to hunt their rut, please consider giving those of us in north AL that hunt early February rutting deer the same opportunity.

Thanks,
Brad Biddle

Fur, state ever done fetal studies in your area?

I have no idea. It would pain me for them to kill does around our farm to do them on but I'd sure bring em to the club. Same rut date for both

No they haven't already gone through the rut. So yes they do rut later where I am than where you are. They have rutted no earlier than the last week of January, ever and most years it's the first or 2nd week of February. The earliest I have ever seen a buck chase a doe on our farm was 1/29. It was a spike pushing a doe. I know there's more to the rut than the chasing phase but that's when the big ones are usually active. i have never seen a spotted fawn before August 15th so we could back that up 205 days and see what date that is. If I wasn't posting "live from a creek bottom" on my phone I would check it now

1 doe and 1 buck per season? I hope you're trying to be funny.

I've derailed more threads than anyone on this website but I didn't start this thread to discuss deer limits. That's a whole nother can of worms. I'd love to see about 10 or more doe season zones in the state but I'm working on one issue at a time.

I'm not sure if you missed my earlier post but nighthunter will come do a fetal study for you this spring if you ask him. He's coming to our place this spring to do one

EVery now and then we have one killed around here that has cast an antler last few days of season. I have several pics from my place where they' ve cast around the 15th of February. I don't think the folks in Montgomery are so stupid to add a couple weeks in February for extreme NA. I've been told by several that it won't happen.

That's nuts... limit one set of hunters to 1 buck and leased land no limit, really? Never discriminate on the hunter, everyone will lose in the end that way.

Try hunting in Henry county...I have property on both sides of CR 57. State says the deer one the east side of the road rut in late December/early January but that the deer on the west side of the road rut in late January/early February. Season goes out today on the east side of the road and they've just started some pre-rut activity.

That made me chuckle. Glad you can cross the road and still hunt.
