Was in the dollar store Sunday night and the cashier was talking to he girl infront of me in line about being excited about tax season. The lady infront of me axed why dat?? Cuz me and Diontay got back 9000 dollars last year....... I'll say it again, 9000 dollars!!!!!! Once again the lady infront of me axed why and she said bc of all of my and diontays kids. I work my butt off for what little bit I get to keep and it infuriating for me to hear that's what she is GIVEN for being a PROLIFIC BREEDER!!!!

RANT OVER, now we all need to go back to work bc people are depending on us

You by the way only see half of what you are paying for SS the "employer" puts in the other half that would otherwise go into your pocket. So you are actually paying more for the poor bastages in Washington to piss away. Feel better now??

Yep. The government loves when we get those big lump sums.

This could be the wrong thread for the question, but how do you guys feel about someone drawing WIC or Medicaid, for kids, if they dont HAVE to have it?
Ive heard people whine and moan about someone getting help through this that doesnt absolutely need it, but ive also heard people say to take all you can get because we pay for it...

Scenario example : Your daughter has a baby. Her salary puts her just under the limit and able to get WIC and Medicaid. She isnt married, but lives with babies father that supports their household as well. Does she HAVE to have it? No probably not, but will it help? Yes.

I would encourage you to seek a few worthy charitable donations throughout the year if you don't already do that to get as much of that back as you possibly can. I do feel your pain and don't even look at my withholdings because of the sick feeling it brings.

As far as controlling your own retirement, lots of TALL promises have been made by the presidential candidates about what they're going to do on their first day in office.....let's see what that brings. Obviously, I'm not too optimistic, but I'll be happy to stand corrected.

I have some family (not immediate family) who is this EXACT scenario...and they haven't gotten married yet for that specific reason. They were actually planning on getting married prior to the baby's birth, until they found out that if they did so, they'd have to pay significantly more in medical bills. So they decided to "postpone the wedding for a while"...

It is infuriating.

Many of them don't work at all, they join Mary Kay, Avon, etc. as an independent distributor just to make it look like they are working...they file a return and get the "earned income" tax credit...you're right, makes my blood boil too.

I am not opposed to "helping" someone. There have been times in my life that public assistance was the difference in me having food to eat and doing without.
With that being said, I do not qualify for assistance... If I were single with three kids I would not qualify for assistance. I have worked hard and paid my dues so that I can pay my bills and carry insurance for my family. I nor my parents never looked at the system as something that would provide for us forever.

I bust my hump working 60-80 hours a week and pay into a system that gives this kind of money to folks that won't work!
My wife and I usually get a return of a couple hundred bucks from the IRS and maybe 50 or so from the state.
I always figured it was best to work it out so that you come out even when you file.
But, these folks that "can't wait till I get my income tax" pizz me off!!
Not to mention the SS tax that I am never going to see!

IRS should have to post all the people names that get over $2000 back and why they don't work. Might better not might be a riot!
You know what makes me sick!!^^^

Used to work with a guy who did his sister's taxes. She was a single mom with two kids and a low paying job.

He told me between the low income tax credit, child care credits and all the other stuff, she actually made money on her taxes. I thought the best you could do was get back all the money you paid in (i.e. pay no taxes) but he said she got back MORE than she paid in. SMH

I see a LOT of people using instances like this, which is why I was asking. My fiance and I had the talk about all of this before our little girl was born. After we started talking to several people about her being pregnant, its amazing how many people come out of the woodwork and told us how to "make it easier" using the government. Was even more amazed that more than one close friend of ours works under the table just so they can keep their income down and get everything free.. Im all for helping someone in need, but taking advantage of it pisses me off.

Mrs Gomer and I "got the cart before the horse" a little bit too, so to speak...we could have stayed unmarried and she would've likely qualified for some assistance (though she was working at the time). Instead, we got married ASAP (we were planning on getting married soon anyway, for what it's worth) and I changed my insurance at work from single to a family plan and we paid for everything as we should have.

It has certainly not been easy. There are times I would've loved not having some of those bills to pay where I could spend the money on other things instead, and we've made some sacrifices - but that's part of being a responsible adult.

At least I can sleep peacefully at night knowing I'm handling it the right way.

You've got that right. It is definitely a struggle. We were planning on getting married this spring, but big man had some other plans. Now we will have a cute little flower girl next spring, lord willing..
It put us in a financial pinch as well, but we make it work and are happier than we have ever been. Cant wrap my mind around someone cheating the system and taking all the hand outs, but knowing we have done the right thing is all I can do.
How old is your little one?

He's 4. Also have a 2 year old little girl. I'm already dreading the day he starts doing the math in his head and asks how he was born 3 months after we were married... laugh
