Any of you sleep apnea suffers or CPAP users care to give a referral of who to call in Hoover/Bham?
I've tried a dental appliance (non RX version) and it has helped but I'm just not getting the good recuperative sleep I need. I'm always tired and need to finally get seen about it.
Names of good doctors? Name of Sleep Clinics? Names of CPAP suppliers?
And yes, I'm aware that if I lose a bunch of weight things will get better. But I was having same trouble 40 pounds ago too. Just worse now.
Thanks, Mike

If you find a good one let me know. I seem to be fatigued all of the time even after adjusting my diet and trying to rest more. I have a heart problem but I should at least feel rested in the mornings.

Dr. Sosnowchik or Dr Chris Roney. They are 2 of the 3 pulmonologist in that group at Brookwood. Good guys and should be able to help you out. Their 3rd partner, Dr Wilson is ok, but kind of flat and lacks a little in the personality dept.

I went to Jackson Hospital if you decide to make the trip to Montgomery. They did the two night required study on me and I no longer feel tired in the morning at all. Highly recommend them.

They prescribed me a CPAP machine and set it based on my sleep study. I didn't think I would be able to sleep with the hose and the mask but I adjusted to it almost immediately and now I use it every night. No more snoring at all and I wake up without a headache and feel very rested. The sleep results after using the CPAP were significantly improved.

I've done the CPAP and mouthpiece appliance. Neither have worked. Anybody else had the same issue? Intolerance to the CPAP or appliance? Get the right mask. Stay after them until you find the one that works best for you. I've used a CPAP on and off for 10 years and consistently for the last 4 years. I even had the UP3 surgery back several years ago and it just made my apnea worse. Worst pain I've ever endured in my lifetime. I've broken bones, had kidney stones and every other conceivable pain causing thing. Recovery from that surgery has them all beat. I use a Mirage Quattro mask. It fits me perfectly and I sleep incredibly well now. If you don't sleep well with a CPAP, it's the mask. Make them swap masks with you til you find one that works. I won't even take a Sunday afternoon nap without mine on.

I haven't found one that I can tolerate. A lot of $$ spent on those dang things. And I've made very good efforts at trying to wear them.

I can understand not being able to sleep with a full face mask. It took 3 before I got one I liked and it's the one I still use. They didn't have the stick them up your nose kind when I originally got mine. I started out with a small nasal mask and I wore it for about 6 months. I woke up one night with my mouth open and the air was coming out my mouth as fast as it was going in my nose. My tongue was so dry I could have struck a match on it. I tried 2 different full face masks and could not sleep with them on. I tried a chin strap and my mouth still popped open. After stopping using it for 3 years I finally got ahold of the mask I use now and it is perfect. I think they'll let you try different masks if you are at the sleep lab when you try them. You might check and see if they will let you try several. A good nights sleep is worth the trouble.

I have been a CPAP user about 10 years now. Just as Fur said, it's all about finding the right mask and the right sized mask. I use a large Mirage Quatro mask, a humidifier on my machine and a heated hose. I sleep pretty well for a fat boy...
