I've gone back and forth between smoking and dipping since High School. My son asked me to quit smoking 2 years ago so now I like Skoal longcut straight. I don't crave it like I used to so I don't dip until I get home in the evening and have a beer. I don't dip much during the week. On the weekends and especially if I'm hunting or working around the house I dip a lot more. This past weekend he started pestering me about dipping so I'd like to give it up for good after the season. I can go all day without it but by the time I get home I'm bad irritable.

Paid almost $8 for a can in New Orleans once.
It was $27 a can in Regina, Saskatchewan, in November 2014. Yes, that is a correct number.

Red Seal Long Cut Wintergreen. About a can every three or four days, unless I'm fishing. Then a can in a day. I buy in rolls when I'm home because it's double the price in Florida. I can buy a roll of five cans back home for $12-$14. In Florida, I have paid $6.09 a can. Made that mistake ONCE. No more than I use it, I should just quit.

I go through about a can of Grizzly Fine Cut Natural a day. I love the original Copenhagen Snuff but it's too damn pricey.

Well, I'll join the club of confessors.
There was a time in my life where I used substances regularly: It wasn't uncommon for me to party and use drugs on occasion...mostly in college and before I got married. I used to drink often and a lot. I used to smoke a pack a day at least. I used to dip a can a day of Skoal Long Cut Mint when I wasn't smoking. When Hunting, I chewed Levi Garret. On the bad days I'd be drinking while dipping and have a cigarette at the same time.
I returned to Christ about 16 years ago and over time I was able to make many changes in my life not through my own strength but through Christ who strengthens me.
Today...I haven't touched pot or other drugs in 20 years. I may have a cold beer with a meal once in a while or a good bourbon on a special occasion---maybe 1 drink a month. I cut back to 5 cigs a day when my first child was born and eventually quit all together 12-14 years ago.
But my nemesis, Skoal Mint Longcut, still remains. I've cut way back and currently dip about 1 can every 2-3 days. When I'm driving on a road trip with work, I dip much more. A roll of 5 cans lasts me Monday -Sunday easy, often with a can left after a week.
I've quit but started back 100 times. Y'all know that often I'll lay out a post regarding matters of faith...not to show how I've got it all figured out but to show that I, you, we all are in need of Christ being supreme in our lives in every area. I'm not gonna call dipping a sin, but it is something that harms our bodies or at minimum has the potential to do harm. It is also a worldly crutch substitute and a yoke that we carry around. We waste money on a chemical fix. I love the Lord but I have had the hardest time giving up my Skoal.
I've gone cold turkey only to be weak and succumb to it again. I've tried nicotine gum and patches to no avail. I've tried to fake mint leaves dip. One day I hope to break the habit for good because at times it is truly a thorn in my side. In a way I feel it is keeping me from a closer connection to my family and my Lord. The Lord has pressed upon my heart to stop, my wife and family have done the same---but I somehow just refuse. Stiff necked and stubborn.
I'm not sure if others on here can relate to that or not. But that's my story.

Amen man. I will say quitting is the easy part its the staying quit is what is the hardest. Every year deer season comes in and I just have to have one while im in the stand. Other than that im usually dip free 7 months out of the year.

Started dipping my freshman year of high school ('86). Started out with Skoal Bandits, then moved to Skoal Wintergreen. Swapped over to Copenhagen my junior year. When I quit, cold turkey, on Oct 28, 2007, I was up to 2 cans per day. I stopped on my way to work that morning, like every day, and bought 2 cans. Got to work and opened one of them and took 1 dip out of it, and for some reason, it tasted horrible. Thinking it may have just been that can, I opened the 2nd can, and it too was horrible. Got a dip from the guy I was working with that day, and it tasted like the 2 cans I bought that morning. Gave those 2 cans to the guy I was working with and haven't had a dip since that day.
