Fur Jr got his first buck this evening. I posted a separate thread about it. My wife has confiscated my laptop and I'm having to use my phone. The thread wound up in the General forum instead of here

Spear em went with me this afternoon and passed a 3 yr stud 8 pt, to shoot a 4 yr old 100" 8pt I asked him to take if he saw him. I could not beleive he passed the younger deer, not sure if I could have. Charles at Artistic whitetails has his buck now doing a European mount for him!

I swayed back and forth in a pine tree this morning from 0600 to 1155, and didn't see anything (not even a squirrel). Still enjoyed being out there though.

Y'all boys up in some parts of central and north bama may have a decent herd of does but that is something extreme southwest bama is lacking.

Best day this season. Youngest son was out of school for REL wanted to go. We didn't get to spot until 9:00am. From 10:15-11:15am we saw 7 bucks and 3 does. We were hunting about 1/2 mile or more from each other. I had a spike with dime sized antlers about a 1/2" long chase a big doe within 40 yards of me across a CO grunting every step. They had no more got out of sight when I look back up the ridge towards the truck and see a big shooter heading my way. However, he did not follow them he hit another ridge to the south looking for the doe. He was about 225-250 out and moving fast. He never stopped moving. Due to the tree tops, standing white oaks and holly trees I couldn't get on him. Well he got down wind of me and caught my wind and headed back up the ridge. I stood up and was getting mad at a blown opportunity. I had my rattling antlers hanging on a limb so I graded them and hit them together a few times and put them back up. I had no more than done that when I looked back up the ridge and saw yet another shooter running across the CO right towards me. I squatted down took rest on the top part of the climber and got ready. He was heading right at me and all I could see were those long tines and approx. an 18" spread. When he got to about 150 yards there was a some more holly trees a bent over cedar tree and a small swag. He stopped to look for the doe or from where the rattling had come from. I kept looking through the scope at the last spot I saw him and nothing. I was thinking all he has to do is step out and few more steps and he would be mine. I never saw him again. All I can figure is that he hit that swag and took an right and went straight down it without ever showing him self again. Now Im squatted there really pissed now. I am looking all over the CO trying to find him. I look back to my right once again and there is a fourth buck headed my way. He comes just like this last buck came but when he hits that little swag he only fallows is for maybe 40 yards and pops out within easy rifle range. he then turns down the ridge and he off looking for the doe as well. Dang is all I can say! Mean while my son sees two does and three bucks himself. One of which he said he s=could have shot easy at 40 yards. He said it has a long left beam with only the G2 left on it. All the rest had been broken off. Hes right side was broken off right below the brow tine! We saw all this action between 10:15 and 11:30am. The other guys that have been hunting this property have been going from 6:00am-9:00am and then from 3:00pm until dark without seeing a single doe! My son had to go to work so we headed out at 1:00pm. I then went after a another big 8 point that has shown back up two days ago. The last pic we had of him was Dec 18th, not another pic of him until two days ago. The wind was not great for either treestand we have set up so I just slipped in checked the wind several times and set up on the ground. A little after 5:00pm I look to my left and a buck steps out. I ease my rifle up and look through the scope and see that it is not the buck I am after. This buck is a really good 2.5 or an average 3.5. He is at 70 yards and gives me three chances at him, but I let him walk. Im wanting his big brother! We let the other buck go last year and he blow up this year. great day to not bring home any meat. smile

Youngest son went back after our big 8 point and had him come in at last light. He was pushing them up a hollow and just would step out into a good shooting lane until it got to dark. We still got time if he will just hang around and not leave again.

I was just funning with you Big T. I really hate it that y'all don't have hardly any deer down there anymore. I agree with you that something needs to be done but there really just isn't any plan to fix everything state wide other than common sense. For the record that was the first doe I've killed all season but I do plan on shooting at least one more for the freezer. We try to kill 6 or 7 a year off of a little over 500 acres.
