bordering our hunting land some people have 16 dogs. no yard. no leashes. no fence. they don't feed them. the authorities have been called plenty and they refuse to do anything.
SSS works great for me every chance i get

saying you have no legal recourse over a trespassing dog is complete bs. if you can prove ownership they will prosecute the owner for trespassing. I have done it twice. people talk about slob hunters but if you just shoot a dog without at least trying to find out who the owner is and handling it the right way first youre nothing but a slob human being! no excuse for that sort of laziness. shooting them should be your LAST RESORT.
Go with the flow and you will end up down the drain!

If someone turns dogs out on your property and the hunters trespass then yes you can do something. If the club beside you is running dogs and they get on you, then you are SOL. Now if you would kindly post up the state law where a dog can be considered a "trespasser", I would love to see it.

This entire conversation is disgusting! I have no respect for a person that would shoot a dog. You think a dog is messing up you hunting? There are 100 coyotes running around on your lease (not your private property)and you think a domestic dog is hurting your hunting? Probably from the its brown its down thought process.
Everybody is STUPID at something!!

Or how about this don't people's dogs or how bout you keep your damn dogs up and not free ranging on other people's private property! Now there's a classic thought, but wouldn't that mean someone would have to be a responsible human being instead of a helpless victim. Ahhh, that'll never work He would prolly get in less trouble if he woulda shot the owner. Dang skippy!!!! I've got a couple of the pit bull strain of coyotes that keep showing up on trail cam, had one trailing me one morning coming from my stand but he took off when I noticed him.

I only shot a dog one time and he was on my porch growling at me. My boy was pretty young at the time and I couldn't take the chance of that dog biting my son. I never said anything about it, just took care of the problem. However, the neighbors thought that another neighbor had shot their dog, so when the opportunity presented itself, they shot the other neighbor's dog in retaliation. I felt pretty bad about it, but both dogs ran lose all over creation and we live out in the country. One neighbor is 1/2 mile away and the other is closer to 1 mile and both of these dogs were regularly seen on my property and in my yard. But like I said, I never shot the dog until he was on my porch acting aggressively towards me when I tried to run him off. Telephone?

Wrong! There are currently no laws that a dog owner can break by letting his dogs get on a lease that he has no access to. There are no repercussions or penalties for him. Sinking to their level doesn't make anyone a better person. In my county, the outlaws were so bad that running deer with dogs is now illegal. There are legal steps that can be taken. Becoming what you hate isn't positive IMHO. I agree. I don't condone shooting dogs for any reason other than they are being aggressive. I firmly and strongly believe that a man has a right to have no dogs on his property if that's what he wants. The go to hell attitude of a large percentage (not all of them mind you), will eventually get it shut down. MTeague's brother was on here a few weeks ago bragging about getting on other peoples land and one club 7 miles from his killing a big buck in front of his dogs. He's part of the problem. Are you sure? I believe you've got him confused with someone else
I had much rather be tried by twelve than carried to my grave by six!!!!

If a dog comes into my yard and gets on my porch and starts growling and showing his teeth at me or my family there are no second chances for that dog...period. I would never be able to forgive myself if I called the neighbors and had them come get their dog (which they had no fenced yard to put him in and only runs lose) and that dog came back down at a later time and attacked my son or my wife. Our county didn't have animal control at the time, and the cops would have just came out and gave the neighbors a "you need to keep you dog up talking too". No thank you, I'm not willing to take that chance with my family's safety.

i'm thinking you tree stand dog shooters are pretty much dog haters. i can't bring myself to shoot one. i hunt my son's 52 acres. lots of deer, but neighbors, too. they have dogs. country folks tend to let their dogs wander, and they sometimes wander on his land. i leave 'em be ...

I don't think any of the guys on this site go looking for dogs to shoot and I'd venture to say that they would assume to never see a dog running wildly on their property and to never be in the position of making THAT choice.
Dog owners need to keep their dogs put up and keep them from running wild on other peoples lands.
The fool tells me his reasons; the wise man persuades me with my own.

If it had just gotten out of its fence they likely would have gladly come to get it, I know I would
