I prefer the cummins overall. Which I prefer a straight axle truck. Duramax had injector issues for awhile I can't remember what years they where that was worse about it. And ford with out a 7.3 is a dirty word. They all have pros and cons Straight axles will get you the death wobble after about 150k... That's some scary stuff.

I've thought about getting a Dodge with the Cummins motor but Dodge has always had such a bad resale value. At least historically. Million mile motor in a 100,000 mile body

I've had several solid axle Ford F-250s with over 400K that still drive great.

The 06 duramax had the LBZ motor, which is probably the best one because the next series is LMM and they are choked down with all the emissions controls.. EFI live w/ straight pipe and an egr delete and youll think you have a sports car. I sold my last duramax (08) to my brother and he loves it and both of my work trucks (01 dually and 06 van) are duramax diesel and they have been trouble free (they work for every mile) i now drive a 96 dodge with the 12 valve cummins.. kind of old school but w/ 350 hp injectors, trick turbo, straight pipe and tuned injection pump it makes just as much power as my tuned duramax at about 1/2 the cost of buying a stock duramax

I have had 3 5.9 cummins trucks and 1 duramax. I will probably never own another duramax. Fuel mileage was terrible and for some other reasons. A 5.9 cummins cannot be beat. What was the difference in the mileage? 7 or 8 miles on average. It was an 07 lbz. Loved the tranny but didn't care for the motor. I have an 05 5.9 with 62k on it now. I guess I will hang on to it for a while. The duramax definitely gets the nod on interior and tranny but no comparison in the motor department. Somebody said it best about a million mile motor...100k mile truck

My 08 2500 duramax averaged 14 mpg with mixed city and highway driving.. tuned and deleted it averaged 23 mpg driving in the same conditions, but loaded pulling a gooseneck trailer with mini-ex i still got around 17-18 mpg. My 12 valve cummins i drive now averages in the 20s and it seems about the same loaded or empty. If you plan on pulling anything heavy, the cummins gets my vote, not that the duramax wont do it but i prefer the power curve of the cummins for pulling heavy

01-04 is the lb7 that had injector issues. lbz is the best motor which is what the 06 has Some first half 07 had the lbz also

Well men I found a truck 05 ram 2500. The seller has paperwork for a new motor that was installed around 10-15k ago and transmission was rebuilt 25k ago so mechanically it should last forever. I'll post up some pics when the deal is complete but the damn ram has the power!

It comes with a hyper tech programmer and there is already some exhaust work done. The wife is excited to be able to hear when I leave early in the mornings.
