I've been hunting an area with a lot of deer activity and movement. Someone hunted in that area yesterday and shot at and missed a buck I've been after. How long should I wait to go back in?

I'm probably the expert on this subject! (I'm the funniest one on this board about hunting pressure) 99% of them are going to say you should've went in there as soon as your buddy left. For me, it's ruined the rest of the year. Well, I'm joking a little bit, but I wouldn't hunt that same spot the next day personally. He probably didn't mess it up (bad), but if he spooked that buck I'll bet a year's income that same buck won't do it again the next day, maybe not even for a while. But if it's something like a big cutover, and there's a higher deer density there, then you're probably okay to go in next day.

I prob wouldn't be in the same spot either. You never know how other people look as scent control. I might be in roughly the same area but that's about it for me. I have seen some bucks come back to the general area and then I have also seen them a long ways away. It's a crapshoot
I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

jeeze, some of ya'll make jumps Evil K would of been proud of.... depends on just what was going on and what happened.. IF he was chasing a hot doe I'd of been there as soon as he left, no later than the next day. If the buck was a long way off and he just missed I wouldn't let it bother me, it prolly didn't bother the buck.... IF he shot and missed at ten feet, jumped up and hollered, then beat the buck with a stick I wouldn't hunt there any time soon .....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I hunt primarily on a large military base that is gridded off into areas. Yesterday morning there was a ton of buck sightings, chasing bucks, LOTS of shooting, and a couple of kills in what I consider to be the best area out there. At lunch several people turned in their permits to leave and OF COURSE there was an excited line of people clamoring to get those permits and go back in there yesterday evening. And I'm like what the heck??...they shot the place to pieces, killed two stud bucks, wounded at least one other, left gut piles, tromped all over the area, and just in general pressured the dog-pile out of it. Based on text messages with some friends who were in there yesterday afternoon, there were ZERO shots and only one of them saw deer (two does). That's just an example of what I mean. Now that's probably an extreme example, but the point is it shocks me how unconcerned "most" people are with hunting pressure. When to me hunting pressure is BY FAR the #1 main issue I worry with.

Bux, Pelham Range? I'm pretty sure it is. I am from Oxford originally. Killed a nice 8 point buck with my bow there in 1979. Big 8 in January 1983 with my shotgun. Other deer sprinkled in over. the years. They've used various management styles over the years. Some good, some bad....the manager that made people shoot does is gone, I understand. I told my nephew, he was going to wipe the herd out. I think, he almost did. I know they eliminated doe harvest a few years ago, what's the current doe situation? You should know some of my kin. My nephew is Stevie Bruce, he has issued permits in the past, may still do it. Is he still hunting there?

If there's a hot doe in there there might be a few big bucks in the area.
